Goodbye, Sophomore Year!

Now that the finals are all done and I am packed and moved out, my sophomore year of college is over. Finally. This year has been full of ups and downs and conflicting emotions that made me feel like I wanted to drop out to become a cat sitter… Or a mermaid. At this point, graduating high school as the class of 2014 has officially happened two years ago and I am now just an echo within the high school.

For the first time since August 31, I can breathe. I am ready for the beach, sleeping, and more sleeping.

Between multiple cups of coffee a day, almost falling asleep in class and staying up late at night— I am just about done with textbooks, essays, and note taking. The school year of 2015-2016 has thrown many friends, challenges, and memories my way. I have learned many lessons that I will have until the day I die.

Yes, buy the Bernie Sanders shirt that has the psychedelic colors on it, even if you don’t end up wearing it. No, you don’t need that boy to make you feel complete, even if he has convinced you otherwise. Coffee and caffeine no longer work on me. Yes, go to the concert early and camp out all day like fools. Roam around New York in hopes you find celebrities. Talk to random people and make friends of all different backgrounds. Eat the chocolate cake. Fall in love with a stranger. Be phenomenal. Just live.

Out of all the amazing things you will do in life, getting half way through college is one of them. Freshman year, fall semester is testing out the water, seeing what this whole college life is about. Spring semester is just a reminder that school is school, and no matter how much freedom you have, you are still confined to school. Sophomore year fall semester is now with the big leagues, no longer a freshman and now knowing better than to wear a lanyard around my neck (one way to spot a freshman a mile away).

Sophomore year, spring semester is the real deal. Just kicking ass in the morning and taking names in the evening. Time to get it done! But now it is done.

In almost four short months I will be a junior in the fall and I cannot wait to see what that is like.

I am half way done, I am at the midpoint of my college career.

Sophomore year of college has been such a growing experience but a roller coaster ride all at the same time. Looking back, these past two years at college have flown by. I cannot imagine how much faster the next two years are going to flash right before my eyes.

In only two more short years I will be done with college and thrown into the world like a baby horse just learning how to walk. I am so excited, but at the same time, I wish I could put it off until later.

Thank you to my friends who made my sophomore year of college unforgettable.

Thank you sophomore year for all of the adventures and memories I will cherish for a lifetime.

And a special thank you to my sophomore self who never gave up.

See you soon, junior year!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
