When I went to my first Detroit Red Wings game I was overjoyed. It was the final season that the team would play in the historic Joe Louis Arena and I was there to see it first-hand. I have been a fan for quite some time now and being able to walk into the arena, see the players with my own eyes and to sit in the stands was a dream come true; special thanks to my boyfriend who made it all possible.
Fast forward to this past weekend, The Detroit Red Wings played their final game on Sunday April, 9th. They beat the New Jersey Devils 4-1 and when the seconds counted down the fans began to feel emotional. This is it. These are the last seconds that would be played on the ice and these are the moments that the fans will remember forever. An octopus flies onto the ice. Many grew up watching the Red Wings play and would continue to cheer for their team. This was the last hooray and the end of Hockeytown. The last game that we would all see being unraveled at the Joe Louis Arena.
The cheering, the banners, the atmosphere-- you can feel it all and it just makes you shed a tear of sadness. It's the final farewell to The Joe.
The Little Caesars Arena brings a new hope and a new home to the fans. It's always hard to say goodbye to something we all hold dearly but we have to move forward.
Farewell and goodbye. Thank you for the memories and we will make new ones moving on from a fellow Detroit Red Wings fan.
