10 Good Reads For A Slow Day
Savannah McGuire

Although I'm not your avid reader, I do enjoy books as a side hobby. I tend to read poetry, war books and random books that I just picked up because I skimmed through and yes--I judged it's cover, but they all lead to some amazing reads. So, if you're looking for a book to read for fun, then I've got a few for you:

1. Nightengale by Kristin Hannah

This book is hands down my favorite book. I had to read it for my senior year high school English class but totally fell in love with it. The back story of it is basically sisters during World War II, but it has a take on both of the girls as they have different memories from the war. Also, no lie, I cried at the end, and I throw it at anyone asking for a good book; I have no shame.

2.The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur

If you love poetry and Rupi, then you should totally go for this book. It comes after Milk and Honey but is just as beautiful as it.

3. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

To be totally honest, I had to read this book in school, skimmed the first part, didn't really pay attention until one day I finally decided to! I ended up rereading it and is now one of my favorite books today. You should definitely give this one a read.

4. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Again, I had to read this due to school, but I loved this book. If you haven't read it for school or a project, I 100% recommend this book; you have to read it.

5. Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Beautiful book and a beautiful movie, I cried again. It happens.

6. Sarah's Key by Tatiana De Rosnay

Sarah's Key is again about World War II and also made me cry. The story is told by a present-day journalist who has to write about the day of Vel' d'Hiv' in France. The story is told also told from two different point of views, which makes the story super interesting.

7. Catch 22 by Joseph Heller

Although I haven't read this book myself, my roommate absolutely loves it! It's next on my reading list.

8. Animal Farm by George Orwell

This book is told in a non-conventional way-- by animals but gets the point across. Also, you should check out 1984 By George Orwell which is another one of his books.

9. Harry Potter by J.K Rowling

I had to add it.

10. The Outsiders

Suprise, I also had to read this for school but I have reread this book multiple times, and I love it more and more each time I read it. Stay gold Ponyboy.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
