Do you remember how it felt to be thrown into the deep end of a pool? For me, going to school out of state has been a lot like that. Like that kid in the deep end expected to swim, you struggle for a little bit, but you eventually adapt and swim to the side. I've learned so much about myself and have grown to have a deeper love and appreciation for people. There's something riveting about moving to a state where absolutely no one knows you. They don't know your past, your fears or even who you are; you can be whoever you want to be. It is a chance to start over - a new school, new friends, new environment, and new experiences!
Moving far away was one of the best ways to find myself. I'm on my own, with my own rules and consequences, in a place where I can grow so much! Being forced out of your comfort zone is one of the best ways to grow and discover yourself. I don't think I really understood the saying "life begins outside of your comfort zone" until I moved to Colorado.
I still struggle with homesickness, but that's just part of the adventure. I miss seeing familiar smiling faces at the store or church, or around my hometown. However, as I meet more people, this "new" place starts to become more and more comforting, and more like home. Alvin, TX will always have a special place in my heart, but I am glad I've moved on to bigger and better things in my life. This world is meant to be explored! Because I chose to be thrown into a pool of uncertainty, I have been so blessed with this opportunity to meet new people from all walks of life while attending an amazing school in such a beautiful state! Take the leap when new opportunities come your way.
