You're from Florida, but going up north for college? Are you ok?
As many of my close friends know I'm from Florida, I know, very far away, and why in the world did I pick Quinnipiac University over all the colleges in the Sunshine State? People are extremely shocked when they ask me where I'm from and why I picked Connecticut out of all places. My transition from a small town in Florida to Hamden, Connecticut was interesting, to say the least.
As we all know, Florida has two seasons; Summer & Winter (being 1 week out of the entire year). My roommates were constantly making fun of me when I checked the weather app every other minute. Telling me, "you'll hate the snow, just wait" yeah, when is May weekend? Also, wake me up when it's summer. Seriously, you would think a Floridian like me, would be excited to play in the snow but the truth is, on the first snow day I was snuggling up with my roommates, watching Nicholas Sparks movies all day long.
The most frequent question I've been asked in the past 6 months would have to be, "Why did you choose to attend Quinnipiac University" I simply look at them and laugh, and explain to them that I've been asked this question about 200 times. As I was looking through the many colleges I could've attended, I knew my heart wanted to be up north. My mother and father were extremely heartbroken when I told them I wanted to leave Florida and "experience new things." I knew what my mother was feeling, she didn't want her last baby leaving the nest. I love my new home, I truly adore it here. Back to the question, "Why did I choose Quinnipiac?" I'm studying Business Management, hoping to start my career in New York City. I believe I would have a better opportunity to start my career in the city, rather than attending college in Florida.
Before coming into college, I was always independent, very mature and knew exactly what I wanted for myself. I believe my mother and father have made me into the smart, young lady I am today. With their support, they knew where I wanted to attend college and they certainly made it happen. Between every class, facetime, text message and facebook post, I constantly get reminded how proud they are of me. I absolutely adore my parents and everything they've done for me. I can always turn to them for support and daily reminders of how important I am to them. If you're reading this right now, thank you so much for everything you do.
Although I miss the warm weather, living five minutes away from the beach, and being able to go even in February, I'm very happy I attend Quinnipiac and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
