Going Out Of My Comfort Zone

What I learned from going out of my comfort zone and trying out at a new show and making new friends

Going Out Of My Comfort Zone
Me

I recently went to a new theatre group and I learned so much from going to it - I can't even explain it in words all that I learned. Not completely at least. I feel like I just got adopted into another family. I would rather spend hours sitting in a run down Sonic's with these people than sit at home and watch Netflix. Which is saying a lot because I LOVE me some Netflix. Anyways, let me give you a little bit of a background….

At my high school I don't have many close friends, I have maybe one or two but nothing crazy. I am in the theatre department and love to do theatre. I've done lots of shows at my school but I wanted something new, some new friends, some new experiences, just something new. I needed to start over. I needed to try to make new friends and expand my horizon of personalities in my friendship circle. Especially before I go to college next year. I decided to go tryout for Sweeney Todd at the local children's theatre. I didn't get a lead role, which I wasn't upset about because I got one of the best roles I could ask for...I got Company/Ensemble. I couldn't ask for a better role, because of this I got to talk and hang out with almost the entire cast backstage and make wonderful friends. I never thought I would relate to any people more than I do with them. I want to thank them all for opening my eyes. I have social anxiety and a fear of making new friends. I've had bad experiences with that type of social situation. Anyways, I want to emphasize how great these friendships are, I have never even been in a show with one of the guys I'm friends with and now I consider him a really great friend. I had a mental breakdown and two people from this theatre messaged me and talked to me until I was okay. This theatre is unlike many others, everyone there is a family. Yeah we pick on each other but it's all out of fun and games and we all end up saying “I love you” at the end of the conversation. I am so grateful I went to his theatre.

So, what I learned from going to this theatre is…

Don't be afraid to make new friends

Do go out of your comfort zone, you never know what you'll find out there Don't hide your feelings from people, let them see the real you Friendships are everywhere you just have to open your eyes A fresh start isn't always bad

Try your hardest to shine

Stand out

Show that beautiful smile, good things will follow

Making friends isn't that scary

If they're telling a story listen, it's probably either REALLY funny or REALLY intriguing. Even if it's told multiple (a thousand) times

I just wannna say: I love you CCT

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
