Spring Break: a whole week dedicated to relaxation in the middle of a chaotic semester. College students tend to either go on vacations or go home during this time. One thing is certain: unless you fall under a specific set of exceptions, you aren't allowed to stay on campus. As a struggling, poor college student, I, like many others, came home for spring break to enjoy the company of my family and some much needed home cooked meals.
The Best
Relaxation
Since it's spring break, I have no obligations. I have no schoolwork that urgently needs to get done and no midterms to study for. I can binge watch "Law and Order: SVU" and Gossip Girl without feeling guilty for not dedicating my time to my studies. I can read books, play with my little brother, cats, and dog for as long as I want and thoroughly enjoy the time I spend doing so.
Family
Coming home for spring break means coming home and seeing all of my various family members. I missed them all much more than I had realized and I'm really glad I decided to come home so I could get absorbed in their hectic schedules and hear their crazy stories about their days.
Walks and Runs
Along with binge watching television shows, I finally had time to just go on long walks and runs. Exercise is always good, and the scenery makes it so much better. Where I live, there is a bike path close by to both my dad and mom's houses. I was able to enjoy a few long walks with my mom while on spring break, as well as a trail run with my dad, stepmom, stepsister, and sister.
The Worst
Friends
My friends from home all have another week or so until their spring breaks. That made it very difficult to be able to hang out with them while I was home for the week. I was able to visit my high school cross country coach, who I consider a friend, but I was not able to see anyone else. My time was spent solely with family.
Not Enough Time
Between my grandmother's, mom's and dad's houses, I've been kept quite busy trying to spend time with some of my family. Everyone missed me and everyone wants to see me. I went shopping with both of my grandmothers, went for walks with my mom and little brother, and ran a race and hung out with my dad and stepmom. I watched hours of my favorite shows and was able to read a book. I still do not feel like I was able to spend enough time with anyone and I did not accomplish all I wanted to get done.
Spring break was an array of walks and runs, reading, watching TV shows, spending time with family and definitely not in a tropical location getting tan like some of my UNH friends. I may not have done any schoolwork, but I was able to relax for an entire week and catch up on some much needed sleep.
