After going through the 3-7 days of formal recruitment to join a sorority, many girls find their forever-home. Sometimes, after a girl finds her forever-home, it means they have less time for girls in other sororities or friends out of greek life. The largest misconception of Greek Life at the University of North Georgia is that we group together in our sisterhood and ignore other sororities. Now it is time to hear about the actual Panhellenic life at the University of North Georgia.
1. We only hang out with our sisters.
Yes, we LOVE our sisters, but I love my Panhellenic sisters to death. Two of my roommates are in different organizations, and I have no idea what I would do without them. Some of my best friends are from other organizations, and I have never viewed them as “different."
2. Everyone supports everyone.
Sisters from our six sororities are always present at every event thrown by other organizations. We love every philanthropy and jump at the opportunity to support each sisterhood.
3. A home is a home, even if it isn’t ours.
All I want as a Greek woman is to know a young college student found her home and a place she can be herself. Whether that be with me or somewhere else, all I want is that young woman to find where she belongs.
4. The Panhellenic Committee is our mom.
Different girls from each one of our sororities holds one of the many position on our panhellenic committee, and we love them to death. They always love on us and keep us informed like the good “mothers” they are.
5. No discrimination.
Some girls drop out of recruitment or find that Greek Life isn’t for them. When that happens, we ignore it and continue to hang out with them, study with them and love on them. Just because they don’t have greek letters doesn’t mean they aren’t as amazing as they were before.
Each girl is completely different just like each Sorority. I still can’t believe how blessed I am to be apart of the Panhellenic family at the University of North Georgia. And in two months, Panhellenic will welcome more women into our amazing little family.
