Oh, winter break. Can't you stay a little longer? With classes resuming in less than two weeks and professors e-mailing you (already) about assignments due the first day, it's hard to find that motivation to stop binge watching that show on Netflix and start getting your act together.
If you're anything like me, and you're lazy as hell, the first step toward motivating yourself to get back into the swing of things is cleaning out your room. An uncluttered desk is an uncluttered mind! I started by taking two leaf bags and tearing apart my room. As nostalgic as my Bop It! from fifth grade is, am I ever going to use it again? If the answer is no -- chuck it. While it's difficult to part with things that have sentimental value, there is no better feeling than getting rid of the old and starting new! While you're at it, clean out your closet, drawers and even your car! Get rid of all of the crap you're never going to use again! Donate those old clothes! You will thank yourself.
Now that your room is (somewhat clean), go on a nice little field trip to Staples, and color code the crap out of your classes. Color coding is a major key to success. Find a red notebook and red folder for class A, purple notebook and purple folder for class B, so on and so forth until you've color coded for all of your classes. For me, this little organizational trick goes a long way! While you're there, go get some pens, highlighters and Post-It's, because you're probably going to need them.
While you're out, you might as well go to the mall and get some new clothes to motivate you to look good for the semester. Why not get some new bras, underwear and shoes while you're at it! Looking good always makes me feel good, so do it up! Also, feel free to get your eyebrows done, your nails done and get that well-deserved mani-pedi!
I love to read, and as a history major, I do a lot of it. However, over breaks I tend to veg out a little too much and watch all seven seasons of "Gilmore Girls" (oops) in about a month. With school coming up, why not pick up a book and read for fun? Reading is like exercise for the brain, and it will help when you actually have to read for school!
Just remember, guys, we got this in the bag! Take a deep breath, get a good night's sleep and tackle the semester one day at a time!
