Giving Up Small Things

Do you really need all the things you're spending money on?

Dave Ramsey, author of Financial Peace and the Money Makeover once said "In order to live like no one else, you have to live like no one else". Think about that quote. Here Ramsey is talking about money, but how can we apply it to our everyday lives?

In my previous article I discussed how Less is Better and having too much "stuff" doesn't benefit anyone. But think about that quote like this...living like no one else right now, so you can live like no one else later on down the road.

Here are 4 steps on how to live like no one else so you can live like no one else.

1. Get water instead of a soda at restaurants.

Water is FREE and you can even request a lemon for flavor. Most drinks other than water are $2.50+. If you eat out three times a week and get a soda to drink that's approximately $7.50. If you go out to eat three times a week for a full year that's almost $400. FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS people.

2. Stop getting your nails done, ladies.

It's approximately $35 to get them on, and about $25 to get them filled. If you go every two weeks for a full year that's $650 + the $35 to put them on = $685 dollars. SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS ON FAKE FINGER NAILS.

3. Stop eating so much fast food.

While it's easier to grab a McDouble on your way home then cooking a meal at home, STOP IT. The problem with fast food is most people don't have the self control to just get the hamburger. They want the medium fries, the large drink, and what the heck they'll get a hot fudge sundae, too! That adds up to be a $7.28 without tax when you drove up to get ONE hamburger off the $1 menu. So say you do that twice a week for a full year. That's $757.12 dollars you could save.

5. Did you know you can make your own cup of coffee?

Whether it's Starbucks, or your favorite coffee shop it's not helping your bank account. $5 for a cup of coffee is OUTRAGEOUS when you can buy a 11.3 oz container of coffee for $3.98 at Walmart that will make 90 servings of coffee. NINETY SERVINGS. So let's do more math...if you buy this canister for $3.98 and say you drink coffee for 90 straight says. You would have to get less than 4 of these containers a year. (If you get the bigger container you would have to get less a year) That's only $15.92 A YEAR. Instead of spending $5 on a cup 5 days a week. That total come to $1,300. THIRTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS. What could you do with that money that you're spending on a CUP OF COFFEE THAT YOU CAN MAKE AT HOME?!

5. You don't need that.

This is point is just a general reminder that this world is telling you you HAVE to keep up. You need the new iPhone 7. You need the new apple watch to match it. You need to have Nike tennis shoes and lululemon shorts. You need a new car because that makes you look classy and rich. You need to go to every event that you're invited to. You don't need need need you want want want. There is NOTHING wrong with thrift shopping, so why do some only go when needing funny costumes? There is NOTHING wrong with used items. Stop breaking your bank account because you're trying to keep up with the world.

While it's easy to get caught up in all the wants in the world, remember that Jesus has already provided you with everything you need. So if you add up

Not drinking soda : $400

Not getting nails done every two weeks : $685

Not eating fast food : $757.12

Making coffee at home can save you : $1,300

Miscellaneous on #5 : $500

You can save more than $3,500 a year by giving up such small things.

Now remember these are rough numbers, but plug YOUR numbers in and be amazed how much money you are wasting.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
