Throughout our lives we get told to give and you shall receive. By all means that is the truth. Sometimes you need to give to the person who deserves it the most, yourself. Taking the time to appreciate the things others do for you and let them know you are thankful can put a smile on their face. For example, constantly thanking your friends, family, co-workers and even the ones that bag your groceries at a store. But, how often do you give yourself credit for the things you do? Here are a few things you could do as time goes on:
1. Give yourself attention.
Think about all the things you are doing with your life and focus on how you can improve them. If that means going somewhere by yourself to think and find yourself then by all means do it. As we grow as individuals, we sometimes tend to focus on what we can do to make others like us. Don't worry about that, focus on learning how to love yourself.
2. Give yourself a break.
Learning to take a step back and relax will help you in the long run. Life will always be chaotic, we get pressured into making these big decisions about our life at a young age. Realizing that life goes by way too fast puts you in duress to get things done in fear of not reaching your life goal. I'm not saying not to get things done, but rather take some days off to relax and enjoy yourself.
3. Give yourself credit for all you have accomplished.
Never, and I mean never, sell yourself short. Be proud of what you do and how it reflected on other people. Congratulate yourself for being a good person, setting examples for others and doing the right thing. Giving yourself a pat on the back can go a very long way and even boost your morale.
4. Spoil yourself.
By all means spoil yourself. Go out and do what makes you happy. Buy some new clothes or shoes, get your hair done or just take the time out of your day to pamper yourself. If going to a lake or pond to fish relaxes you, then go do it! Just simply think about you for a day. You will see how happy it will make you.
5. Give yourself love.
Above anything, give yourself love. Comparing yourself to others gets you no where in life. Appreciating who you are and all that you have accomplished will create a feeling far more special than any comparison you make to someone else.
So, with all that being said. I hope that you take this and realize that giving to others is such a great thing. But, sometimes giving to yourself once in a while can be very beneficial in your own happiness.
