Flashback Backslide (Wordpress)

As someone who grew up as a tomboy, I have to say that there are a few key phrases and incidents that I know happened way more often than I would’ve liked. Growing up a tomboy made me appreciate the strong side of myself while also being able to grow in other aspects, like learning how to apply mascara properly! I definitely was an adventurer when I was younger, and loved sports and getting dirty way more than I liked wearing that Easter dress to church that made me look “like a beautiful young lady!”

Now, I’m not saying that growing up as a tomboy was better than being considered a “girly-girl." However, I think that there are some things that every tomboy has either heard or can relate to.

1. You were way more comfortable in boy-ish clothing than you were in feminine style clothes.

Yes, that means the basketball shorts. (Leslie Knope may very well be my spirit animal.)

2. You often were encouraged to have a girls' night rather than catch snakes with the neighbor boys.

Sorry, Mom! I really like being outside, and boys are way less drama than girls!

3. A lot of your friends either played sports or dressed like you.

Not a push-up bra to be seen! Sports bras were my very "breast" friend growing up. See what I did there?

4. Your hair was often short or pulled back at school or when you were participating in a hobby.

Let's be honest, the stuff just gets in the way.

5. Being called “one of the boys” by one of your friends was absolutely the highest compliment you could have received.

This meant that you were truly as rough and tough as them!

6. You may have heard your mom ask you to act more lady-like at least once or twice in your childhood.

I know I've apologized once, Mom, but here it is again.

7. You definitely went through a blue-and-purple-eye-shadow phase, because let’s face it, make-up was not your friend.

Even though I don't wear blue eye-shadow anymore, I definitely wear my share of men's sweats. They are so comfy!

8. You had to often remind people that although you were one of the guys, you still had feelings.

Hello, people! Still a girl, still have my own thoughts and emotions!

9. Playing sports and being athletic was just a given for you, and you loved it!

Slide tackling and being able to outrun boys was my passion. What's better?!

10. Growing up being strong and independent has made you more balanced, and you can easily fit into different cliques.

You get to understand both worlds now! It's easy for you to be interested in sports and Forever 21. How great is that?

11. You grew up and became a kick-ass person who can roll in the mud on Monday and contour on a Friday night! Be proud!

You rock, girl! You had the best childhood ever -- wear it like a badge!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
