A Thank You To The Girls Of My Spring Break Road Trip

This year for Spring Break, I decided to go with two of my friends to Starkville, Mississippi to visit some friends. This was a very last minute decision, but after getting back home from the 5 hour drive, it is not a decision I regret. Even though I was only there for 3 and a half days, I have so many memories that will last a lifetime. After spending 10 hours combined in a car with these ladies I owe them some gratitude for putting up with me.

To the ultimate driver,

Thank you for driving the whole way down there, for focusing on the road, and for not killing us. I really appreciate it. Thanks for always appreciating my song choices and for laughing at me being dumb. It really means alot to me. I’m glad I called shotgun and was able to talk with you the whole way there. Thanks for putting up with out ridiculous requests to pull over and take pictures with signs. I’m glad we were buddies for the weekend and stuck together. Thanks for coming up with crazy plans to pass the time, but then later deciding they were really dumb (like why did we ever think driving to NOLA was a good idea?) Thanks for always being ready for an adventure and for never saying no! I’m so glad I can call you one of my best friends now after this trip; I just love you so much!

To the backseat,

Thanks for being the snack distributor, reminding us about the existence of bathrooms, and for napping like a boss (like seriously you were out for a solid 2 hours of the ride back). Thanks for letting us crash your trip and for making sure we had a good time. Thanks for being my church buddy and for constantly monitoring the volume of our car jams. Thanks for being my best friend and for always having my back, because I could not have made the trip without you. Thanks for being super extra and making us bring our own towels, coffee, and coffee mugs even though we used none of them. I always know I will be prepared when I go anywhere with you.

Spring Break 2017 was one of the best Spring Breaks I have ever had and it didn’t even involve a beach; although there was some sand volleyball that I ABSOLUTELY KILLED! I am so grateful I had the opportunity to road trip with two of my best friends and I cannot see where the road will lead us next.

Yeehaw and ride 'em, cowboy, 'cause we sure had fun in Mississippi.

Love,

The Shotgun

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
