It’s that time of year again.
It gets dark way too early.
It’s always cold.
And, inevitably, you start feeling a little down for what seems like no reason.
I know every year around late-October to early-November it starts for me personally — usually around the time when the clock goes back an hour. I never know why I really start to feel down but I notice myself “getting bad again” where I’m not doing the things I should be doing to take care of myself, and I close myself off from those around me.
Thankfully, there are a couple things you can do when this happens to help get you out of that slump and help you feel a little better.
Put on your favorite music and have a solo dance party.
This may seem silly at first but make a sad playlist where you have all your favorite upbeat tunes and crank it up when you feel yourself getting depressed. The best part about this is that music has the power to immediately change your mood and if the music is happy, it’ll help you be happy also.
Face mask, wine, and a bath.
I always feel better when I pamper myself. I do this in all kinds of ways: clean sheets, a nice hot bath, face mask, getting my nails done and drinking a glass of wine. Pampering yourself during these cold, winter months is a major key to keeping your head above water. Speaking of water... Drink a lot of it.
Go for a drive.
I feel like this is common advice but I also think no one seems to take it. But seriously there's nothing better than just going for a drive with no destination... Just the road, some music and free your mind. It makes me feel better every time, especially when I find a cool place I didn't know existed.
Just try to remember that none of this is permanent and you will work through any problems you're currently faced with. The season will pass and soon it'll all be alright again.
