"New Girl" Explains Going Back To College

It's that time of year again, folks. Back to school time. I used to cringe at that phrase, but ever since going off to college, I've found excitement in the saying. Back to school means learning (yay!) and meeting up with friends who live anywhere from 45 minutes, eight hours to three days away.

I've recently become a "New Girl" addict. After finishing "Grey's Anatomy" this past June, I had to find another show to watch, and "New Girl" has not disappointed. The characters are absolutely hilarious, and I feel like I can connect with them on a super-real level, especially when it comes to my emotions regarding getting back into the swing of things at college.

1. Owning your pajamas

You're either in an apartment, house or the dorms. Someone is bound to see you in your pajamas. College taught me to own what I wear—especially my pajamas. Yes, boys. Unlike what many of you think, I do not wear a bra to bed.

2. Having a reason to "get ready"

Along with owning your crazy pajama sets, college means dressing up for a night on the town—and lookin' good while you do it.

3. Not caring what people think of you

You're back with your friends, and there's no one telling you what you can and cannot do. Hey, the world is your oyster, so do what you do best, even if it's goofy, quirky and a little weird.

4. The realization that you have to study again

I think Nick Miller is the prime example, here. He hardly ever gets dressed, doesn't really know how to cook and runs frantically away from his responsibilities. I mean, that basically describes college students.

5. Finally getting to see your BFF again

You two are BFF's: an unstoppable pair of fine people who don't care what others think about you. Thank you college for helping me find the Nick to my Shmidt.

6. Reality hits hard sometimes

You have approximately four years (plus or minus a few semesters depending on the individual) to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life. That's a scary thing that we've all faced at least once...per semester.

7. Cue the identity crisis

Whether it's you, a friend, a hallmate or someone you see walking on the path, we've all had those moments where not only do you not know what you want to do for the rest of your life, you're not even sure who you are anymore. These crises are often caused by severe lack of sleep, stress and studying

8. But it's our year!

Despite all of the obstacles that we have to face on our own as young adult individuals in today's society, this school year is our year, and we're going to make the most of it (with our Netflix, secret popcorn stash and midnight cramming along the way).

So here's to this next year, and you bet the cast from "New Girl" will be along side me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
