Where you lead they will follow, and with that they sure did. "Gilmore Girls" fans have been begging for a reunion since the series finale in 2007. Nine years later, the girls return.
Rumors had been fluttering around for the past year about a reunion and if it could possibly be in the works, and it turns out they were true. Naturally, when I heard the news, I was a bit skeptic. I mean, how often does one of the most beloved shows make a reunion, although it seems to be a trend recently with "Friends" having a special this month and "Full House" having a spinoff on Netflix.
I knew it was official when I saw a Twitter post from the actor who plays my favorite character, Lauren Graham.
Ever since the post, I have been sharing articles, telling my friends, and gushing over how excited I am for my favorite show to return. I own all seven seasons on disc, watched them at least five times, my very first email was "Gilmore Girls" based, and when Netflix released all the seasons last fall, I sat and binge-watched the witty episodes all over again.
My name is Dalton and I am addicted to "Gilmore Girls."
OK, I finally got that out of the way.
A few days have gone by, and so far this is what I have gathered on what we should expect for the four-part mini-movie series.
No Sookie
It was just released this week that Melissa McCarthy, or Sookie St. James as we fans know her, will not be returning to the revival. Supposedly she was not asked, which gives us the impression that maybe there are some hard feelings. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino told CNN that she would be more than happy to write McCarthy in if she has a spare second to run over to the set, making reference that the comedian is quite busy and may not have time for the show.
Set to return
Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore), Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore), Scott Patterson (Luke Danes), Sean Gunn (Kirk), Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), and Keiko Agena (Lane Kim) are all set to return to Stars Hallow for the revival. The big question is how will they incorporate Edward Herrmann, who passed away in 2014. As far as we know, it will be mentioned and brought up in the revival. We also are wondering which one of Rory's boyfriends will make a return or if there will be a new guy in the picture?
Four seasons
As mentioned above, the revival will be a four-part series, and the four parts will be broken up into different seasons. The first to premiere will be "Winter." There are no premiere dates for the parts, but table reading and filming has begun. I expect we will be back in Stars Hallow pretty soon.
Where it will start
Sherman-Palladino has given some hints that the series will start off with the Gilmore girls facing changes in their life just as the pilot began in 2000. We do not know much about this change, but it is definitely one that has me on my toes.
Oy with the poodles already! That is a lot to divulge but leaves you wanting more -- that is for sure.
No matter what happens in the upcoming revival, I am just glad that the show is coming back. It feels like I am in my teen years again waiting for the next episode of the week to air.
