For those of you who have already been traumatized by the four episodes of "Gilmore Girls: A Year In Review," continue reading. For those who have not: CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK. SPOILERS BELOW!
Now that I've gotten THAT out of the way, let's talk about why Logan is Rory's OTP (One True Pairing), and how despite Amy Sherman-Palladino telling us the show is finished without a happily-ever-after ending, we can come to our own happy ending conclusions.
Obviously, I need to address Jess Mariano. I would be remiss not to. While I will say that Milo Ventimiglia is a babe, I cannot be distracted by his crooked smile and dreamy brown eyes (dammit there I go again).
Jess was all kinds of wrong for Rory. His lack of communication (which some could argue as being dishonest) while may have been for the right reasons, constantly left her frustrated and feeling inadequate. Jess and Rory were kindred spirits and as we saw in the revival, are better as friends.
His callous initiation of sex and angry response to her hesitation showed that he didn't realize how while she may be a force of nature, she also needed to be cared for. I know, I know, this is years later and Jess has changed, he's grown up, but the Jess of now doesn't negate what the Jess of back then did.
On to Logan. Oh, wonderful, protective, charming and sweet Logan. He threw away his playboy lifestyle to be with Rory. Despite his parents' disapproval of her, he works and grows in their relationship. But she RUINED everything when she turned down his marriage proposal (and he didn't help by being stubborn with his ultimatum.
Onto the year in review. We start fall seeing Logan and Rory comfortably back together despite her boyfriend Paul (or was it Peter?). It is apparent they both still care for each other. Logan is still there for Rory, offering advice, support and quips when necessary as she struggles through finding herself.
We discover Logan is engaged to the faceless Odette. This discovery enraged everyone, but they clearly forgot that Rory turned Logan's proposal down. She was the one who walked away from them. Logan has done nothing but be there for Rory. Including answering late night phone calls, fly in and save the day, bringing along the Life or Death Squad (be still my Finn-loving heart), and offering to give her A HOUSE.
We all know that if Rory were to say, "Logan, I want to be with you," he would drop Odette like the cheap french handbag she is. How great can she actually be if Logan's despicable dad likes her? (Sorry, Odette, I'm sure you're actually lovely. I've just got Gilmore Loyalty.)
But Rory has her stubbornness and pride to contend with. She can't bring herself to upend Logan's life knowing she isn't sure where hers is supposed to be going. Which is why the final four words are so important.
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
Now the timeline suggests that it's Logan's baby (or PLOT TWIST the Wookie's). Which many have started to say alludes to similarities between the Lorelai and Christopher timeline. He's well off, he's got a family business, and he won't be there for most of the baby's childhood.
HOWEVER, I don't think Logan is Rory's confusing, absent and just kind of awful Christopher. I think Logan is Rory's Luke. There was a ring but no wedding, there was a constant magnet pull back to each other, and he is who she calls when she is upset or stressed out or needs saving. Luke literally walked around Emily's house fixing things during Richard's funeral because that's what he (and Logan) do. They fix things. Rory's instinct when she's upset is to call Logan.
So in summary: Logan is the father, he will leave Odette, they will get married, he will continue forging forward in the family business, Rory will raise the baby in typical Gilmore fashion: with quips, socially relevant while not always acceptable remarks and a desire to do something more.
Rory will become an Ace Reporter (see what I did there). Lorelai will open a bigger Dragonfly Inn and prominently feature the gargantuan portrait of Richard as tribute, Sookie and Michel will help her run it and Luke will change the wifi password to once again keep his diner laptop-free.
Emily will continue to traumatize small children at the whale museum and will spoil her great-grandchild rotten. All will be well and when the sun sets on the idyllic Stars hollow we won't have to wonder about the turmoils the next day will bring.
