Most college students have awaited Thanksgiving break for months. For many students, this was their first opportunity to actually leave campus and head back home. After spending the past two weeks reuniting with family and friends, it quickly became time to pack up the bags and once again say our farewells. On the road back to campus, many realizations emerged about these upcoming weeks, serving as the awkward gap between Thanksgiving and Christmas break.
1. Denial.
Your first thought is denial. The reality of you re-entering into the college lifestyle has failed to set in. All you can do is reject the thought.
2. Realization.
As classes are restarting while the semester is wrapping up, you realize that the only thing you accomplished was stuffing your face with home-cooked meals and seemingly infinite leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner. You forgot about the homework, presentation, and exam you have due this week.
3. Regaining a sense of freedom.
However, after living under your parents' roof again for the past couple of weeks, you are definitely excited to re-establish your independence and freedom.
4. You actually have clothing to wear.
Despite your eagerness for an independent lifestyle, its always nice to rely on your parents for their laundry service. It seems like your extremely small dorm-sized closet has tripled in size, because you can't remember the last time you actually had a full closet of clean clothes.
5. Reuniting with your second family.
Before going home for break, you spent the past three months living side-by-side with some of your closest friends. This is the first time you have spent more than a day or so, or possibly even just a couple of hours, a part from them. You realize how weird it is not having these people surrounding you every waking moment of the day. As great as break has been, you are excited to reunite with the gang.
6. Nights out.
After several classy family dinners filled with expensive glasses wine, its back to the reality of slapping the bag. You may even be having peach taaka and grape karkov withdrawals.
7. The Freshman 15.
After feasting over Thanksgiving break and consuming real world food for a full ten days straight, you feel like you should probably work out, but...
8. Dining Halls.
You decide that soon enough you'll be back on track to your dining hall diet, consisting of picking apart food from Gresh.
9. Community Bathrooms.
Although you may have finally got used to the feeling of your feet touching the shower floor, it's time to bring the flip flops back out once again. You can't wait to share three sinks, three showers, and two toilets with 20 other girls!!
10. Twin-Sized Bunk Beds.
After spending several nights sprawled across your bed that can comfortably fit three, you forgot that in the dorm, you sleep seven feet above the ground in a bed half the size.
11. Finals.
After finally settling back into your life away from home, you realize that finals are quickly approaching. You try to ignore that fact.
12. When's Christmas?
You take this time period day by day. Although you may often question why you decided to come back, Christmas break is only a short few weeks away.
