"New Year New Me."
Not that I've ever actually said that, or meant it, but the general message is somewhat true. The new year gives people an opportunity to reset in their minds. A new year, indicates a time to be a better you. Even though this should be a consistent mindset everyday and not be triggered by the turn of a calendar; nonetheless, 2016 offers a blank slate to map life out.
So the ball drops, everyone kisses and has their champagne, wakes up hungover the next day and decides to start this new lifestyle January 2nd. One day won't hurt. Actually, the gym routine will start on Monday, I'll start saving money with next paycheck, and I'll eat healthier when I go grocery shopping next week. Fresh start with a fresh week. But it doesn't work like that and you find yourself saying those exact same sentences about the next week, and then the next week.
I'm not sure about you, but I've had a pretty crappy January through and through. It seems like 2015 wrapped up in extraordinarily unproductive fashion, and the new year kicked off by kicking me while I'm down. So I've decided upon this.
I'm having a new New Year.
January was a trial month. One of those, buy now and you receive the first month free items. Well, it did not give me the results I was looking for so I'm simply returning 2016 and restarting in February. And I'm calling it, "Time to Get My F*****g Life Together February."
It's another fresh start ("Another one!" - DJ Khaled voice). And honestly, it's not the worst thing. Life gets hectic around the holidays and celebration of the New Year. Even though January has not been as kind to me as I would have hoped, I have a revised outlook for the year and a better plan. Now yes, part of that plan includes the typical; gym, eat healthy, work more, save more, study harder, and be a nicer/better person. But, I have other personal goals and aspirations that I'm shooting for – and while it wouldn't make sense to list them, visualize your own, off the radar goals. Sometimes they are small, and other times they seem as if they are unreachable.
As cliche as this sounds though, you can reach them. You have a whole year ahead of you. Take your goals head on and work towards them. Make some sacrifices that help you to achieve what you really want to. In the long run you will thank yourself. Push yourself to complete your tasks, and don't give up. The year just started, so make every day count. Maybe January didn't go as planned for you either - so have a new New Year's. Make this year count.
