The answer is simple, it just might make you happy!
I hear a lot of people say they are not very good at drawing, painting, or creating things in general. They always say they just aren’t very creative. I call bull shit.
I have always been into art. I love looking at it. I love hearing it. I love creating it. I used to get frustrated when I could not create the perfect picture, but as I have gotten older, I realized it does not really matter. Creating something is art, no matter how perfect or imperfect it turns out, you created it. That in itself contains SO MUCH to be proud of.
Making something with your hands can give an incredible sense of accomplishment. I dare you to try it. Art is not about being perfect, it is the act of creating - the fact you have taken something and molded it into something else. I can also tell you when you have those pieces come out just like you had imagined, your inner-self will be full of inspiration.
It may sound strange — being full of inspiration by your own work — but I’m telling you from experience. As I said, not everything is going to turn out exactly as hoped, but when you have those that do, it gives you an amazing drive to create more. In my opinion, it gives a better sense of ambition, and it provides motivation to be better.
I have used art as an outlet for depression, anxiety, and the regular bad days for a long time. It has always helped me overcome them. Recently, I have been picking up the brushes a lot more and I can honestly say it has made me a lot happier and a lot more ambitious — not just in the fact of creating more, but with life in general. Once I start painting when I was sad or angry, I noticed it spilled over into my everyday life. I did not just use it as an outlet anymore, I just did it because it became more natural and I became happier doing it each day.
Do you remember those days as a kid when you would sit there and color when you were out to eat? Don’t you ever wonder how it kept you so occupied? Or how even now when you go out to eat, you get jealous of the little kids because they get to color and you do not? I’m telling you, pick up a pen, a crayon, a marker, a paint brush (something!) and just create. I believe that our brains want us to create things, and maybe even need us to. Just like those kids who sit and color for hours, you should do that as an adult. I dare you to try it yourself and see how you feel. Also, screw coloring between the lines, don’t worry about messing up, don’t worry about choosing the perfect colors... just do it!
Become your own inspiration, create something. Allow your mind to wander far away from all your worries. Just remember, they would not have created adult coloring books if I was just making this stuff up.
