When I first came to college, I will admit that I was totally homesick. I longed for a real living room, and the dorm common room just wasn't cutting it. Like many girls at Tech, I went through sorority recruitment and was impressed with how homey all of the houses felt. As a member of Alpha Delta Pi, I may be biased, but I find our humble abode to be just as beautiful as the rest of them. Although I've never lived in the Pi Palace, it has become my home away from home over the past three years.
The history of the Zeta Omicron chapter of Alpha Delta Pi dates back to 1977, when it was installed at Georgia Tech on November 19. In 1980, Zeta Omicron moved into its first house (which was originally built in 1932), but the sorority eventually outgrew it. In 1995, they designed and constructed an entirely new home that still houses Alpha Delta Pi today.
Coming in through the front door, the first room you pass is the living room. Cozy and inviting, this is definitely one of my favorite places in the house. I can always find someone to chat/study/watch The Bachelor with in here. After lunch, everyone piles on the couches for some down time before heading back to class or work.
Our open motto, "We live for each other," appropriately sits above the entrance to the chapter room. This room also serves as our dining room, and when I want to see someone, my best bet is in here at 11:00 a.m. sharp when lunch is ready (especially on Queso day).
The sparkling chandeliers, high ceilings, and bright periwinkle walls make the chapter room a beautiful backdrop for meetings and meals alike. This room is also ideal for group project meetings and studying in general, which is very important to Alpha Delta Pi (who has maintained the highest sorority GPA on Tech's campus for the past several semesters).
While I don't technically live in the house, I sometimes feel as if I do, especially when we are all getting ready together in the residents' rooms upstairs. Outfit options become almost infinite because you have your sisters' closets to shop in. The girls can paint the walls whatever color they want and everyone decorates with their own unique flair; no two rooms are alike.
Moving to the exterior, you can always expect someone to be on the bench in front of the house, catching up with friends and waving at the football players as they walk by after practice.
Last but not least is the side patio. Hidden behind trees, the picnic tables and benches out here make it the perfect spot to unwind on a nice day. This area offers a cute and quiet place for quality time with sisters.
While the Alpha Delta Pi house doesn't have room for all 181 members to live there, we can all call it our home. Hope you enjoyed the virtual tour!
