Remember when you were a freshman in high school and you were afraid to raise your hand to ask questions? The truth is, that comes from our school system and it's (possibly subconscious) agenda to suppress originality and creative thinking.
We all had teachers that let us express our innovative ideologies, but a majority of them went strictly by the book... even if the books were years outdated.
The Department of Education Institute says that in 2011-2012, over 20% of elementary school students and about 9% of secondary school students attended high poverty schools. This means that hundreds and possibly even thousands of students were learning from outdated material because the school system was not able to provide the necessities to learn common core.
As you may know, mathematics and science are rapidly transforming. Therefore those two subjects alone are not being taught up to the potential that they have reached outside of the school system.
That alone crushes the idea of students being able to fulfill their capabilities.
Aside from that, we have all had a teacher or professor that was determined to push their personal agenda. This has nothing to do with outdated books, computers, or the lack of finances. It has everything to do with pressuring delicate minds into believing something that they are uneducated on.
In college, I took an ethnic studies class that I was rather excited about. When I read the description of the class, I had planned to learn about social issues, different cultures, and the history of the melting pot that we call the United States. Instead, I was told that God was not real, anything other than liberalism was an act of hatred, and that by saying "Donald Trump," you were committing a racial slur.
Consequently, after three meetings, I withdrew from the class with zero refund available.
Although that may be one of the more weighty examples, the principal is the same throughout our entire school system.
Society is obsessed with saying "It's [current year], get with it." So why don't we get with the damn program and stop letting bias and poverty rule our school system? Why don't we, as a nation, raise more money for the public schools that need it? Why are we standing around and letting the future of the United States turn into divided groups that fraternize against each other?
School is where it starts, and the real world is where it ends. What are you going to do about it?
