I'm not very good at understanding football, and I won't lie and say I do, but I am a fan of football games. I love waking up and getting ready and tailgating with all my friends and wearing maroon and orange to support the Hokies.
Football at Virginia Tech is probably one of the best experiences of my life. I remember my first game was the first game of the season last year and I was a freshman. It was such a fun experience to attend a college level football game when the only games I've been to have been high school games.
It's really cool to be apart of something that several thousand people participate in. Such as everyone jumping up and down to enter sandman, doing the Hokie pokey in the third quarter, watching the marching Virginians at halftime and all Hokie's constantly chanting and cheering.
Even if we lose its an adrenaline rush because we have so much fun cheering on our fellow Hokies. Rain, sleet, snow or hail thousands of people still show up to cheer the Hokies on. Driving around campus can be kind of a nightmare because students, parents, alumni and faculty all gather together to tailgate and enjoy being a Hokie before the game.
One thing I love about Virginia Tech is the sportsmanship and the togetherness of the fans and the crowd who are watching. Everyone cheers together and literally everyone you see is having a blast. We all jump together and cheer together.
It's so exciting when fall rolls around and the leaves start to change, because that's when you know football season is finally here and you know Saturday's, some Monday's and hopefully a Thursday will be spent in our own home at Lane stadium.
So my advice for you is buy season tickets, and sign up for the lottery because Virginia Tech football is memories being made, and all around excitement. It's a good way to hang out with your friends and to support your school. We only have four years of games as students and you should take advantage of it.
