Inspired.
I was moved to my core on January 21, 2017, watching women and men of all backgrounds take to the streets of this great nation and march in solidarity during the Women's March. I have never been so hopeful. You marched for what you believed in, you stood in the face of injustice, and you did it peacefully.
The Women's March on Washington began as an idea on Facebook shortly after the election. President Donald Trump's initiatives and rhetoric make it clear women are not on the forefront of his administration. So, like always, women took it into their own hands, making sure that on his first day as President of the United States, he heard them.
I commend you. I applaud you. I stand with you. What happened on Saturday was historic. You worked to better the lives of our future children. It was empowering, it was beautiful, and it was fearless. I thank you.
The future is women. That much we know to be true. The tide is shifting and we must stand together. Going forward in this age without feminism is something we can not afford to. We live in a world of endless possibilites. Little girls around the world stand at the precipice of something extraordinary that our grandmothers could have never dreamed. We have the obligation to push them forward. May we continue to raise strong women and support them through and through in whatever it is they desire.
While I have seen some opposition, I've also seen a lot of support. I love female empowerment. I love seeing women support other women, near and far, in whatever it is you truly believe in. I love seeing men march with their sons and daughters, creating a generation of children who will not hold the prejudices of their grandparents.
Today reminded me of all the reasons America is great.
I am with you in spirit, always. March on.
Here are a few of my favorite moments from marches across the nation:
