Dear Future Daughter,
I hope that your first instinct is to always be kind and nonjudgmental. I hope that you are brilliant and confident and artistic, even if it’s just in your thoughts. I hope that you are self-aware and able to admit your faults and short-comings. I hope that you are positive and optimistic about life, people, and most importantly, about yourself. I hope that you do not let the opinions of others deter you. I pray that you do not fear the unknown and that you will take chances. I hope that you never doubt yourself as often as I do and know that you are intelligent without feeling the pressure to prove it. I hope you never play it safe. I hope that you travel and let the experience shape you into the remarkable person I know that you are going to be. I hope you ask questions, lots of them. I hope that you prepare things ahead of time rather than procrastinate. I hope that you are fiercely independent but also allow yourself to be vulnerable with those you love. I hope that you are able to be to be empathetic and supportive towards others. I hope that you can ask for help whenever you feel you may need it.
I want you to believe in yourself more than anyone else could and know your worth and what you deserve. I hope you never settle. I hope you are able to state your views and opinions in a manner that is less harsh than my own. I hope that you are athletic but also expand yourself to instruments, art and books. I hope that you are never scared to show your intelligence or walk home alone or make the first move on a person you like. I hope that you have the ability to light up a room once you walk in due to your personality and that you are the person that can make everyone feel welcomed and comfortable. I hope that you strive for greatness, because great is exactly what you are. I hope that you are able to forgive yourself for the mistakes you may make or the things you might regret. I hope you are unapologetically yourself, always.
I hope that you are happy and healthy and well-rounded. I hope that you are brave, beautiful, loving, patient and ambitious. I hope that you have the confidence to do whatever makes you happy. I hope that you don’t let heartbreaks turn you cold towards love. I pray that if you cannot find a good person, you decide to be one. I hope that you can see the beautiful in little things, like the sky, sunny days and the way the leaves change colors. I want you to know that you can always come to me; for protection, for love, for advice and for laughter. I hope that you never spend nights in your room crying alone.
