Fun Things To Do In NYC On A College Budget

NYC can be insanely expensive, and as a college student on a budget it can be hard to find things to do that are a lot of fun and only a little money. Here's a list of some awesome pastimes in Manhattan for cheap (or free!).

1. Go to the Museum of Natural History.

Where else can you see dinosaurs, precious jewels, and human organs all in one building? The Museum of Natural History was probably a your favorite as a kid, and it can be a favorite as an adult too. And even better, the museum's admission is donation based. So you pay whatever you want to get in (yes, that means you can give them a dollar if you want)!

2. Visit the Strand Bookstore.

The Strand Bookstore is one of the biggest bookstores in NYC, boasting over 2.5 million books. Since many of the books are used you can buy some cheap discounted copies, or just browse for fun.

3. Take a walk on the wild side at Central Park Zoo.

Open 365 days a year and only $12 admission.

4. Check out the art at the Met.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums in the world. From ancient Greek statues to contemporary fashion, this place is bound to captivate you the moment you walk in. Even better, admission is pay-what-you-want any day of the week.

5. Catch a concert at Webster Hall

Many amazing bands showcase their music at Webster Hall, and you can get tickets for as cheap as $10.

6. Visit Central Park.

From yoga classes to concerts to just taking in the scenery, there are always fun things to do in NYC's largest park.

7. Hungry? Check out the nearest Papaya King

Want some cheap awesome eats? Papaya King has the best hot dogs, curly fries, and authentic tropical smoothies the city has to offer.

8. Watch a documentary at Maysles Documentary Center

MDC is a not-for-profit cinema that screens documentaries every night. You can find this cool little theater on 343 Lenox Avenue. Admission is donation only, but they suggest you give them $10 to support this small Harlem cinema.

9. Look at the art galleries in SoHo.

Many of the galleries are free, and may even offer free food and beverages too!

10. Browse the book collection at New York Public Library.

Not only is the building absolutely beautiful, but this library is open to public access and holds nearly 53 million items for you to view. It is the fourth largest library in the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
