Read!
With all of the spare time that students have on their hands, now is the perfect time to read the book that have been wanting to read but have not found the time to do so. Even better is reading outside in nature! But best of all, is that it is free! Even though it is summer, students should still be learning.
Hobbies!
If reading is not your forte, then worry not! Summertime is the perfect time to start working on your hobby. Hobbies are a chance to meet new friends, and even more importantly, do what you love. Some more popular hobbies include collecting items, cooking, or anything in the arts. For some ideas, here are 17 Hobbies to try if you have no hobbies.
Library!
I have advocated strongly for everyone getting a library card in the past and it remains atop my suggestion-list. Getting a library card is free, and with it comes an almost-unlimited source of media. With the ample spare time available during the summer, try saving some money and going to the library to take out some books, movies, cd, etc.
And if you do not wish to go to the library to browse through all of the media, checking from home is only a few clicks. Every library has their online catalogue updated daily, and they allow people to place holds on whatever they wish to check out.
Concerts!
If you would like more of an experience, then Chicago is the place to be for concerts and festivals – and especially during the summer. There are always going to be events for all music tastes, and always something to do. Some more popular music festivals include: Lollapalooza, Pitchfork, Riot Fest, North Coast, Grant Park Music Festival, and the Taste of Chicago. Navy Pier!
Chicagoans forget that Navy Pier is always available and always having some sort of fun activity going on. Even more fun is that Navy Pier’s weekend fireworks have made their return for all to see. For more information: https://navypier.com/fireworks/
Summer Employment
If you are not already working, then summer is the perfect time to make some extra cash before heading back to classes for another semester. Working over the summer is a great opportunity to earn money to buy what you want. It is a chance to treat yo’ self to whatever your heart desires.
Nature!
With how big and hectic the city may appear, its beautiful nature takes a back seat. However, Chicago’s nature is a fantastic way to spend the day during the summer. Chicago has plenty of forest preserves located all around that offer trails to hike or bike in and plenty of space for activities.
One may ride their bike through the miles of available trails, or if you do not own a bike, there are Divvy stations throughout the city that allow people to rent bikes for the day or longer. This is a great opportunity to see the city and all of its beauty first-hand.
Beach!
It is surprising that there is a beach so close and yet many do not readily see it as a possibility for fun, and especially in the summertime. The beach is a great place to relax, exercise, meet with friends, and even meet new friends. Only very few states are offered a beach for their leisurely pleasure, so be sure not to take this treasure for granted.
Exercise!
With all the spare time that is available in the summer, this is a great opportunity to get some exercise in. From riding bikes, to taking walks on the beach, there is always a way to exercise. The best part is that it is free and it gives immediately results as far as our mental wellbeing. Summertime is only so long, and the weather is only nice for so long, which is why everyone should enjoy it all while it is here.
Sight-See!
Never forget that Chicago is chock full of sights to see. From the artistic creations located throughout to the city, to the number of museums and exhibits, Chicago is a goldmine of entertainment. Here are the city's 25 best sights and attractions!
WHAT IS SUMMER, ANYWAY?
Summer is when everything is in full-swing. The sun is shining, flowers blooming, and the liveliness of the people tangible. Summer is when people are, on average, happiest. It is what we wait for, and what we yearn so passionately for when it is not summer.
“From winter brings the spring again.”
Summer is rebirth. Summer is love.
