The Fashion Week season has all but ended, and for any aspiring fashion-savvy person out there, it means a call to the mall. The looks have been presented by the brands, and now, it is every local trendsetter's goal to translate the outrageous clothes of the runway into everyday looks. Spring may look like a decade away with the East coast's fickle weather, but doubtlessly, it is coming - and when it does, may your closets be ready to transition into warmer weather apparel.
The first trend that seemed prevalent throughout all brands were stripes. This pattern had seen a rise during the previous fall season due to echoing trends of the 70's, 80's, and even 90's, but is now coming back at full force for spring. Bright, textured, or even just plain seaside stripes are apparently the new thing as they offer a cheerful splash of color and energy to the eyes.
Fortunately, this trend is easy to incorporate into everyday wardrobe by pairing either a striped button-up or plain shirt with a plain or colored skirt or pants. Also, don't forget: tucking in can make for a cleaner and more polished look too.
Besides that, flowers are coming into season too - and I don't mean the blossoming kind! Florals are a classic print and staple during spring, so their return to the runaway came with little to almost no surprise. Boho chic is the way to go if you want to try wearing them and opting for more neutral, pastel, or even earthy tones will help compliment whatever floral piece you have on.
And on that note, just what is the color of spring this season? Last year saw a huge upsurge of rose pink, but this year, it would appear that the color blue is replacing its predecessor. Dark, pastel, or printed - any kind of blue is a trendy blue according to 2017 Spring fashion. If you're aiming to recreate a subdued version of any runway look - just remember - any kind of blue will always be good! Fortunately, this look is also easy to blend over into the everyday outfits - and if ever in doubt - remember that denim is a shade of blue too!
As for form, Spring 2017 Fashion Week saw a roar of ruffles resonating throughout the runways - and it's easy to see why. Ruffles, for all their frivolity, are soft, feminine, and breezy to look at. These characteristics, are also associated with springtime vibes, so it's not that much of a surprise that ruffles had found themselves on the runway this time around.
However, while they do run the risk of looking avant-garde at times, it's not that difficult to style them and look normal enough. Ruffles, no matter the size, always tend to draw the eyes and will more than likely become the statement piece or focal point of any outfit. So wear them in moderation and balance their shape out with slimmer or straighter outlines.
At the end of the day though, fashion is fashion. And while runways are fun to look to for inspiration - you should never feel restricted to the trends of the season. Experiment and have fun! Fashion is an extension of you as a person, and anyway, at one point or another, your style may have already been a trend in the past or will be a trend in the future. So rock anything you want and have fun with it because at the end of the day, confidence is what makes any look appear the best.
