Having a hard time on Tinder and Grindr? Tired of confusing dating apps? Well, Friendsy is changing the game by cutting out the awkward question whether you would like to date, hook up, or just be friends!
The app is the brainchild of Princeton seniors Michael Pinsky and Vaidhy Murti, and is only available to verified college students with email addresses ending in ‘.edu.’ Pinsky and Vaidhy Murti created the company in 2013 because they felt as if competitors like Facebook, Tinder and Yik Yak failed to help students branch out of their social circles, according to the company.
"We’re trying to do to Tinder what Facebook did to Myspace," Murti said in a statement.
To sign up for Friendsy, users have to have a student email to confirm that you are an active student at your university or college. After signing up, it is time to set up the profile. Of course, there are places to put the user's picture and name, but there are more options than Tinder to communicate your interests. Users may pick a specific gender; whether they are male, female, or other; there is an option for everyone. There is even an option to communicate the user's year, campus involvement and major as to make sure to keep the bio short and sweet.
There is a feature, unique to Friendsy, where users can send a person a "hint" so other users can have a better chance of having a match with that person that they swiped right on.
According to Techcrunch.com, "It also has a compliments feature that is pretty similar to a Yik Yak feed, where users can anonymously post about people and others can favorite the posts."
Additionally, the app has a feature called chitchat, which connects random student matches to allow online live chat.
It seems as of lately that people in college may not need another dating app, but with Friendsy, it is easier to interact with people that actually go to your school instead of leaving to chance that your Tinderella isn't a liar-ella.
With school coming back in full swing, it is time to meet new people and expand your circle; who knows, maybe you will meet your new collegiate best friend!
