5 Life Lessons Cristina Yang And Meredith Grey Have Taught Me About True Friendship
ABC

"Grey's Anatomy" is now 15 seasons in and never fails to bore watchers with a twist always up its shoulder. Throughout all these seasons, the show never fails to teach viewers valuable lessons about life, friendships, etc. Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey are best friends in the show and have shown their friendships in various episodes. Here are 6 meaningful lessons they have taught me!

1. "Your person" can be found in the most unlikely person

Grey's Anatomy perfectly captures this by showing the friendship between Meredith and Cristina. Cristina is Meredith's person and the two are always together. Cristina is the competitive and hardworking person. At first, she doesn't make a great impression. But, the two soon become inseparable. They are a great example of "opposites attract." Meredith says, "You're my sister, you're my family, you're all I've got, you're my person." Meredith and Cristina have a unique friendship that most viewers wouldn't expect because of how opposite they are to each other.

2. When in doubt, always dance it out with your friends

Giphy

Dancing out is a huge part of the show and has a deeper meaning that signifies the friendships that occur throughout the show. Whenever Meredith or any other character is tensed and needs to de-stress, they always dance it out with your friends. "We have to dance it out, that's how we finish." -Cristina Yang. When Cristina leaves to pursue another job, instead of having a normal good bye with lots of sobbing and tissues, the two dance it out for the last time. These two give dancing a whole new meaning and add value to their friendship. They show viewers that they're the ultimate friendship goals. With their unique forms of showing their love to each other, Meredith and Cristina never fail to show viewers how a true friend should be. Meredith and Cristina dance it out together throughout the show and create a unique bond that viewers can probably relate to.

3. Real friendships are forever

Giphy

Even after Cristina moves to Europe, Meredith and Cristina are still best friends- even though Cristina is thousands of miles away. Their friendship is forever and always will be close to their hearts. In the show, Meredith says to Cristina, "Derek is the love of my life, but you're my soulmate." Even if they don't talk all the time since they're thousands of miles away from each other, Meredith and Cristina are friends forever. They're real friends and have a special place in their hearts for each other no matter who else comes into their lives. The two perfectly demonstrate that real friends will always be there to catch you when you fall. Meredith says, "If there's an upside to free falling, it's the chance you give your friends to catch you." Meredith and Cristina are also each other's biggest cheerleaders because they're always constantly motivating each other. Cristina says to Meredith in the show, "If you want crappy things to stop happening to you, stop accepting crap and demand something more." This kind of advice is truly only given by real friends and perfectly demonstrates the their friendship is truly forever.

4. Honesty is key

Giphy

Honesty in friendships is always key. Real friends will always tell you the truth even if it might upset you. But the good thing about it is that your friends will always say whatever they say for your good. No matter how brunt, it's always honest- which matters most. Yang tells Meredith, "Don't let what he wants eclipse what you need. He's every dreamy, but he's not the sun, you are." Cristina isn't afraid to tell Meredith the honest truth about Derek even though Meredith and Derek are each other's significant others. Only real friendships can have this type of trust between each other.

5. Your friends will always be there for you even when you lose a loved one

Giphy

Throughout the show, Meredith faces a lot of losses. But one thing that is always constant is how Cristina is always there for her. She stays by her side and continuously supports her throughout everything. Meredith tells Cristina, "We're friends, real friends. And that means no matter how long it takes when you finally do decide to look back, I'll still be here." No matter what the distance is between them, and no matter what obstacle life through at them, Meredith and Cristina are always there for each other. They're each other's backbone- always supporting each other. They never let each other fall down.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots.
