Throughout everything, you’ve been there. You’re the friends who grew up with me, who shaped me into who I am today, who continue to support me through all of life’s ups and downs. It’s been us against the world for as long as I can remember, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Our friendship has been through quite a lot over the years, but it just keeps getting stronger. Whether it’s months apart or miles between us, none of it matters when it comes to our friendship. You’re the truest friends I’ve ever had, and you make my heart so incredibly full.
Thank you for genuinely understanding me.
You are some of the few people who know me—the real me—inside and out. You know my weird habits, my insecurities, my pet peeves and my entire life story. You know exactly who I am, even at those moments when I’m not sure if I know myself. But most of all, you just get me. You understand me without any explanation at all, and you don’t have to ask questions because you already know. And for that I’m very grateful.
Thank you for loving me even at my worst.
And no, I’m not just talking about my painfully awkward middle school days. I’m talking about the times when I did not deserve friends like you. The times when I was selfish or spiteful or just plain mean. The times when I did something to hurt you, either unintentionally or on purpose. Looking back, I’m not always proud of the person I was, but you stayed by my side through it all. So thank you for seeing the goodness in me, even when I wasn’t doing a very good job of showing it.
Thank you for sharing my values and ideals.
We may not agree on everything (or most things actually), but we do have the same sense of what’s really important in life, and that’s how I know we’ll be lifelong friends. Our lives are going in the same direction, even if we’re all taking different paths to get there.
Thank you for inspiring me to be a better person every day.
I’m simply a better person for knowing you. You hold me to a high standard and help me become the best version of myself. You motivate me to be a leader, a giver and a risk-taker, but above all, you inspire me to love—to love others, to love life and to love myself. That’s all I could ever ask for in friends.
Thank you for showing me that some friendships really do last forever.
Because no matter what happens, there will always be us.
SFBFs forever.
