"Wall Street losing dough on every share
They're blaming it on longer hair
Big men smoking in their easy chairs
On a fat cigar without a care
But that's what makes the world go 'round
The up and downs, a carousel…
People make the world go 'round"
People Make the World Go Round, but relationships make it glow. I must clarify that I’m speaking of healthy relationships. We will not get into the logistics of what constitutes a healthy relationship. However, it’s fair to say that a healthy relationship allows you to be yourself and gently encourages you to become better.
The way in which two or more people or things are connected. If one were to search for the Greek translation of the word relationship, they would find the words syngéneia and schési from which the words connection, kindred and ratio are also derived.
When some describe their relationships with other people, it’s usually more cosmetic, superficial and only concerned with that which lies on the surface. Nevertheless, when I think about the word connection, the roots of a tree come to mind. Like the roots of a tree, relationships must have roots, history and background in order to blossom beautifully.
Unfortunately, some people aren’t willing to grow the roots of their relationship before jumping into bed together; after which they’re left confused as to why it was short lived. Roots are detrimental to the longevity of your relationship. How do you grow roots? Through basic communication without romantic infiltration: texting, actually picking up the phone to talk, pass time at the park walking or enjoying a game, etc.
Yes, I know you’re ready to hold hands and claim your man (woman), but it’s during this time of friendship that you are able to learn about the character of an individual and even your own. Sex can sometimes fog your judgement, yielding blurred vision that result in emotional fatalities. Keep it clean. Enjoy being a friend; it doesn't mean that's where your relationship will end. When you master the art of communication and appreciation, you develop the capacity to grow beyond the friend zone. It’s nice to know people make the world go around, but it’s better to know we make it glow with the light of love.
