Thank You, Best Friend

Best friend,

Not too long ago would mark three years since we started talking. I never thought what started out as getting off work at the same time and walking to the parking lot together would turn into the most important friendship I would have. We have made so many great memories together and I don't know how I would have survived work, school, and relationships without you, so thank you for everything.

Thank you for the sass. As you know, I make smartass jokes about literally everything. Most people roll their eyes at this because my jokes are terrible, but you embrace it and always have a sassier remark. You always have the perfect comeback, and you never fail to make me laugh. I know how much you love when I make a joke you would say at inopportune times (sarcasm). We are the same person, for better or for worse.

Thank you for all the memories. Pancakes at 1 pm (since you are never on time) have become one of my favorite things about coming home. We share laughs, catch up on stories, play with our food, and inevitably one of us gets hit on every time. That diner has also seen some pretty interesting nights. I love all our random outings, sucking at mini golf, getting lost on our way to a funeral, and everything in between.

Thank you for being my partner in crime. The Kroger days working together were the absolute best. The number of times we got in trouble for screwing around was outrageous. I also always managed to find you, no matter how many times they switched your department. The produce cooler was a great spot, but scaring you from behind a freezer door is also highly satisfying. Two years since we stopped working there and no one expects to see one of us without the other; some things never change and this is one of those things.

Thank you for parking lot talks. Despite the fun- loving people that we are, sitting in a dark parking lot talking about all our feelings, life, personal stories, and how much people suck until 2 a.m. is one of the most satisfying feelings. Despite the situation, you tell me what I need to hear, even if I don't want to hear it, and I appreciate you so much for that.

Thank you for all the shenanigans. You are the Nick to my Jess, we've known this since we started watching New Girl. You're always down to cause trouble with me, but you also look out for me because everyone knows I can't take care of myself. I don't know any other adults that are as amused with a grocery store as we are, but give us some carts, price tags, and conveyor belts and we'll have a grand old time. Can't forget about your Free Friday. I'm still counting down the days until we can play True American.

Thank you for defending me. You're always the person I come to when shit hits the fan and no matter what, you will drop everything in a heartbeat to help me out. I haven't taken you up on an ass- kicking yet, but it's a nice gesture. You'll advise me what to do, knowing I probably won't listen, and then you'll just make fun of those people with me to lighten the mood.

Most of all, thank you for being my person. No matter what, I know that I can count on you. When I blow up your phone because it feels like my world is ending, you drop everything to lift me up. Even though we're 200 miles apart, our friendship has never been stronger. Thank you for being the most selfless, loving, and adventurous person there is. I honestly don't know what I would do without you. Everything in our lives is changing, and we have learned how much adulting sucks, but you manage to keep me somewhat sane and can always put a smile on my face. Thank you for being the greatest person out there.

Love,

Your Person

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
