Dear Forever Friend,
Throughout our lives, we have encountered many people who have left an impact on us. Whether a negative or positive interaction, each and every person influenced us in some way. The more we spent time with a person, the more they shaped the person we became. This is the reason we share special bonds with the friends we make in life. You influence one another in many ways and sometimes you share similar qualities. A person who has impacted my life the most is you, my forever friend. You are a friend like no other.
As we have grown and matured together, we’ve developed a true friendship. Sometimes when people talk about their best friends I get a sense that the relationship they’re speaking of is nothing compared to the depth of our relationship.
You see, the strength of our friendship had time to become as strong as it is. Your family is mine and my family is yours. Our siblings hang out with us like we’re all one, big, happy family and our parents are good friends.
In elementary school, we had our first play date and experienced our first dramatic encounter with boys. We knew the names of each other's favorite stuffed animals and treated them like they were our own. We played with chalk, imaginary friends and made every task thrilling for ourselves. We sat through health class together and from there we helped each other through our awkward puberty encounters.
In middle school, you supported my weird obsessions with boy bands and musicians. Only a true friend would do that. We stuck up for each other even when we were in the wrong. Then later we would tell each other how it is and that we were wrong, but we would never let each other suffer alone.
Then high school came. Of course there were the typical embarrassing moments, dramatic arguments, and academic hardships that we guided each other through, but there were also deeper heartbreaking moments that brought us closer in the end. There were days that we would not have made it through if we didn’t have each other to lean on.
When times got tough, we helped each other through family hardships that we barely understood, but it didn’t matter because we just wanted to comfort each other, always. We were always there for one another as best as we could be. You supported my family when we lost many loved ones and I supported you when you needed me the most.
As it came time to separate for college, I was not ready to part ways with you. I wasn’t ready to start a school year without you. I would miss our carpools, walks in the halls and our coffee runs before school. I would miss doing homework together, procrastinating together, and writing each other's papers. I would miss laughing at things nobody else understood and having telepathic minds.
I was scared that we would lose our bond, but I always secretly knew nothing would ever come between us. We’ve always had each other’s back, offered advice, and loved each other. We’ve always dropped everything for one another, no matter how insignificant the reason was.
Being at separate schools has made us appreciate each other even more than we already did because we’ve never had the opportunity to seriously miss each other before. And I do miss you. Even though there are miles between us now, our friendship remains as it has always been.
This is a friendship that I know will last a lifetime. Never have I worried about losing it as we grow. We will only continue to appreciate the time we have together. A friendship like this isn’t common and I will forever be grateful to have you not only in my life, but also as my forever friend.
So thank you for loving me and being my forever friend. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have you.
I’ll love you forever,
Your Forever Friend
