Freshmen Year As Told By Friends

A lot can happen in one year away from home.

Moving into a new college as a freshman can be extremely exciting, and even a little scary for some new students. You receive more freedom than you have probably ever had in your life. Not only does it seem like the start of the path to your dream job, but it is also a new beginning socially. Moving away from your hometown for college means that you get to meet new people and gain experiences that you've only ever read about or seen in movies. Here are only a few times when the hit television sitcom Friends accurately depicted freshmen year.

1. When you have to meet so many new people during the first week that you become used to having the same conversations over and over.

You meet so many new people during that first week of college that it is almost impossible to avoid the whole conversation dealing with getting to know each other. These types of conversations typically include questions like "Where are you from?" or "What's your major?" while attempting to find something in common with one another.

2. When you and your friends experience college partying for the first time.

While it can be exciting to get yourself out there and be social, just remember to be safe, bring friends with you when you go out, and learn your limits. You don't want to be the one who gets taken away in an ambulance on your first night of college. Use your best judgement, and don't feel peer pressured into trying anything you are not completely comfortable doing. Not everyone drinks in college, and not everyone smokes in college. Don't change who you are just because you think you'll fit in better.

3. When you realize the freshman 15 is very, very real.

When people warn you about the freshman 15, they are not lying. Yes, it exists. Just be mindful of this as you look over all of the options in your dining hall each day.

4. When you also realize that people weren't exaggerating when they talked about finals week.

Your older college friends weren't lying when they said that the word "stressful" doesn't even begin to describe college week. Learn as much as you can throughout the semester. You don't want to hit finals week and realize that you have to learn an entire course in one week. Study at a good pace throughout the semester, and you will avoid A LOT of stress during finals week.

5. When you and your friends back home talk about your new lives in college.

Life can be so different once you go to college. During that first winter break, you and your friends have so many stories to tell each other that you might not even know where to start.

6. Finding out that college courses are a bit harder and more fast paced than the classes you had in high school.

7. Those nights when you just stay in and bond with your roommates.

8. When you leave campus for one weekend and come back to find out about everything that you missed.

A lot can happen during just two days away from campus.

9. The struggles of move in day, or moving out on your last day.

When everyone in your residence hall tries moving in or moving out on the same day, it can be complete chaos.

10. Having your friends' backs when they deal with relationship problems.

Being around your friends on campus all the time might mean that you know everything about each others' relationships. You always have your friend's back when they need it because you've witnessed how big of a toll their relationship took on them emotionally.

11. When you and your friends help each other with homework.

Take advantage of the fact that you are around other students 24/7 when you live on campus. Chances are, you'll either meet someone who takes the same class or someone who has already taken the class who can help you with your homework when you need it.

12. Waking up in your makeup from the night before becomes a common thing.

You either fell asleep studying or were simply too tired to wash your face. Regardless of the reason, it becomes quite common to wake up still wearing mascara and foundation at least once a week.

13. Trying to stay warm while walking to classes in the snow.

14. The struggle of trying not to oversleep and miss class.

15. Missing your hometown friends when you're at school, and missing your college friends when you're at home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
