Whether it was a completely random match or something you guys had planned out for a long time, your freshmen year roommate will always hold a special place in your heart. They literally saw it all; the good, the bad, and the really ugly. This person, whether you were best friends or not, is someone you probably owe your life to in some way. They know you inside and out, and accept your weird habits and poor hygiene. They put up with your weird and constant questions and are always up for some new kind of adventure. This first year of college is incredibly unique, as it will probably be the only year you’re completely jammed up in a crappy building with 300 other girls. No other roommate will you share a 10 x 10 box with or have to experience all the firsts of college. This person is so special and I hope you had the same amazing experience as I did my freshmen year.
I am here to say thank you to this person. Thank you for keeping me alive, supporting my constant eating habits and reminding me to clean out my ravioli mug. Thank you for cuddling with me when I had mental breakdowns and for not disowning me when I bawled my eyes out at the series finale of Friends. I loved our no judgement and no secret zone. Thank you for being so much better at writing than I am and for always helping me with my thesis statements. I loved getting to know each other's small, little quirks and morning habits. I apologize for my rude morning remarks or constant complaints about how sore I was. Our own little party room full of the best memories of college so far. So many weird nights, weird conversations, and weird visitors sleeping on our floor. I wouldn’t trade these times for anything.
Thank you for making my freshmen year one to remember. Thank you for staying by my side as we found our group of friends, our sorority and our favorite fraternity. Formals wouldn’t have been the same without you there to keep me sane and safe. Each day held a different adventure to take on together and every memory begins with you standing right next to me. Thank you for being my person, my rock and the only one I would have ever wanted to take on freshmen year (and beyond) with.
