For some people, high school is the highlight of their life. They were surrounded by friends and had a blast. Graduation was truly heartbreaking for them and they had a hard time saying goodbye to the best four years of their lives. While it is great that they had a good time, this is not the case for everyone. There are some that just graduated that are thrilled to have finally made it out alive and are excited, possibly anxious, to start a new chapter in college. To those that struggled in high school, coming from someone that has been there, be rest assured that it does get better as long as you put forth the effort to make it great.
The classic hierarchy of high school is no longer applicable and there is no longer pressure to aspire to be a certain type of person in order to be "popular." Everyone enters college at the same level: confused, excited and trying to find their place. Others will end up later transferring if they don't quite find what they were looking for. There are some that end up falling into the same habits and attitudes that they had in high school which is sad since they had the perfect opportunity to let go of the drama. However, there are so many people that do choose to let go of the drama, making those that don't easily avoidable.
The best way to make sure you thrive in college is to put yourself out there. Don't fall into the temptation of locking yourself in your dorm with Netflix. Get out and join organizations and clubs that interest you and choose to let go of negative attitudes. Be careful not to overcommit and remember to make time for schoolwork. Always keep an open mind and take a chance on people that you wouldn't have before.
So, if high school wasn't your time, trust me, the best is yet to come. You will meet amazing people and make the best memories. Enjoy the summertime before everything starts in the fall when you will miss having time with no responsibilities.
