Don't get me wrong, Instagram and Snapchat are two of my most coveted apps, but there comes a time when you have to gradually start adding more "grown-up" apps to your home screen. A major shock of becoming a college student is suddenly finding yourself in this awkward stage that we call "young adulthood". To help you in this tricky transition to adulthood, I'm providing you with a list of five apps to get you on the right track to becoming (or at least appearing) like a mature young adult.
1. NY Times (Free)
This might seem like a no-brainer, but a huge part of being an adult is becoming educated about what is happening in the world. Keeping up with current events is a great way to start participating in those "adult conversations" and it shows that you're interested and engaged in society.
2. ToDoist (Free)
This app is a lifesaver because if there's one thing college students struggle with, it's meeting deadlines and keeping track of all of their assignments. The best part about the app is that it functions as a mobile planner and allows you to create various project headers with specific tasks related to each project, keeping your organized and efficient.
3. DayOne ($4.99)
Your time spent at college is going to mark some of the best years at your life and will definitely be full of memories that you won't want to forget. That being said, DayOne is a top-rated journaling app that functions as the adult version of a mobile diary, so you can jot down all of those priceless memories before you graduate.
4. Linkedin (Free)
What can possibly be more adult that signing up for your very own corporate social media account? Even though you probably feel way too young to be creating a Linkedin, all of my professors have encouraged me to create an account because it's a great way to start building your network, organize your resume, and get exposed to new job opportunities.
5. SafeTrek (Free)
Late nights are a part of college culture and that means that sooner or later you'll have to walk back to your dorm by yourself. Let's face it, you can never be too cautious when it comes to safety so, rather than carrying pepper spray, downloading the SafeTrek app is a great alternative. This app will immediately notify the police of your exact location if you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation.
Hopefully, these five apps help you be a just a little more successful, safe, and sophisticated as you continue your journey to adulthood.
