How To Have A Positive New Beginning

Many of us are heading back to school, and are getting ready to start another new quarter that is full of new classes and new teachers. If you're like me, you're seriously mad at yourself for signing up for an 8:30 Monday morning math class. Or maybe, you're resting easy because you decided against a Monday class. Whatever the case, eventually, you'll find yourself back in the school routine. When we're starting a new quarter, it's important to remind ourselves of the goal we have in mind. Sometimes just going through the motions isn't enough when it comes to working hard. I mean, sometimes you can't work hard if you're forgetting the reason why you're working. For me, I know I'm always much more determined to get things done if I remind myself of the goals I have. I don't thrive off of just that day-in, day-out routine. I have to have a reason as to why I'm doing something. Many times, I have to stop and give myself reminders about what I'm working towards. That's okay.

Whenever we're starting something new, it's important to start off on the right foot. Whether we're entering a new quarter, we're starting a new job, we're moving or whatever the case—starting off on the right foot can make or break our experience. If we give ourselves the time and energy to really prepare, and focus, we can change the outcome 100 percent. We might have a really good quarter if we work hard, we might really love our job if we show up with a positive attitude, the move might go seamlessly if we take our time and be patient. Whatever the case, being on the right track will only start if we get off on the right foot.

It's also important to take care of ourselves when we're starting something new. Starting something new can be stressful and sometimes it's hard to manage our time and energy. So we have to remember to take care of ourselves. Get enough sleep, make sure we eat, and remember it's okay to take time for yourself. Whether you like to work out, watch Netflix, paint, draw, read, write, knit or whatever—do it. Allow yourself some downtime so you can recharge and rock it the rest of the time. It'll help keep you from burning out, too. So don't feel bad about taking your own 'Me Time'.

Always remember, the beginning of any journey might be scary, exciting, fun, or nerve-wracking, but you got this. You can do this. The world is your playground. Go out and explore, do, be. Enjoy every minute of it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
