To be free, is to be enslaved by someone else's voice to give you the authority for freedom. To self-indulge, is to do it on your own. What's the difference? Freedom itself is the desire to be given validity to be treated right towards one's own view as a person. Self-indulgence doesn't look for acceptance. Some people are infatuated with the thought of being “free” without actually knowing what it really means. Do you really want to be free or do you want to self-indulge in your own bliss?
I ask such a question because I came across a YouTube video that had these two words in particular. It was about doing your own thing in this world regardless how anyone sees it. You are your own person and you have every right to do what you please, as long as it's not harming anyone else or the people around you. It seems negative, but that's because what you do can have either a positive or a negative outcome. For example, if for some reason you decide it's okay to take that last shot of alcohol and drive back home drunk, then you must really hate yourself! Again, you have to remember that you can do as you please, and if you decide that driving home drunk is a good idea, go for it.
Choice can coincide with freedom and self-indulgence because it is our choice with what we want to do with ourselves. Our freedom is appraised by someone else, which means it can be either the choice we wanted to make or not, and it can either be good or bad. Self-indulgence, however, is the quality of doing whatever you please without anyone telling you what to do. Then again, whatever you please to do can also be either good or bad. We need to understand what's acceptable or unfortunate to our own well-being.
There are times when we want to do whatever we want because we're constantly being told what to do. We desire to express ourselves in numerous ways whether it's socially acceptable to others or not. Maybe we don't want to be free in particular but rather accepted as we are. Maybe we don't want to be self-indulgent because then we'd be seen as attention seekers. How can we express ourselves and be embraced by society at the same time?
Freedom and self-indulgence are two different but very similar concepts. Although we all have an aspiration to be free or just want to follow our own bliss, we have to adapt to how society perceives us and try not to give in to how they want us to be. You are your own person and you have the authority to self-indulge in whatever you'd like to do. Just remember that there are consequences to our actions and our choices.
Be your own person and never let anyone put you down for who you are and what you do. Your infatuation shouldn't be someone else's justification as to why you should be treated any less than someone else.
