Luckily, our nation takes pity on broke college students. You never know what kinds of freebies and discounts are available to you! You should always ask in stores and restaurants if they have a student discount. Most of the time, the answer is, "Yes!” Many places will not advertise that they have a discount, but for asking the question and having your student ID along can often result in savings.

1) Amazon Prime

When you use a student email address ending in .edu, Amazon Student will provide free two-day shipping on thousands of items. Amazon will also reward you with $5 in Amazon credits for every person that you refer to the program. There is no cap on the amount of credits you can get! All across the country, if you visit an AMC Theater on a Thursday night, bring your school ID along with you to get a cheaper admission rate!

3) Jiffy Lube

College students can get 10% off when they present a valid student ID when they go to Jiffy Lube.

4) Chipolte

Most Chipolte locations will offer a free drink with a purchase when you bring your college ID.

5) H&M

Many H&M stores offer 15% off a purchase with proof of your student ID.

At select Kroger grocery stores, students can get a 5% discount on food. Just ask!

7) Buffalo Wild Wings

Most Buffalo Wild Wings will offer a 10% discount when you show them your ID.

8) Subway

Many participating Subway locations will give 10 percent off your total purchase with a valid student ID.

9) Spotify

Students will get a 10 percent off discount on premium music service, making it less than $5.

10) Kate Spade

According to reports, Kate Spade will provide a 15 percent discount when you show your ID.

11) Sephora and Ulta

If you sign up for their rewards programs, both will give you a free gift during your birthday month!

If you enjoy reading the Washington Post, try getting the free digital access with your student .edu email address!

They'll give you 20 percent off of bus fares.

What college student doesn't need this? When it retails for $150, this is a huge score! All you need is a valid college .edu email address.

These discounts are updated frequently, but never be afraid to ask if a business offer college student discounts... You may be pleasantly surprised!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
