Ultimate question of the day: Why are women's breasts sexualized?
In simple terms, breasts are essentially just fat on women's bodies that also produce milk to nourish newborn babies. With the fight for equality growing stronger each day, a multitude of feminist campaigns have come about. Free The Nipple is one of those campaigns.
Free The Nipple is a movement and a mission to empower women worldwide. The campaign stands against women oppression and censorship.
It is illegal for women to be topless, including breastfeeding a baby, in 35 states, according to the campaign's website. Something as simple as an exposed nipple can have a woman in jail for up to three years in some states. "Public toplessness" became legal in New York City in 1992, yet the New York Police Department will still arrest women without tops on.
Almost a quarter of a century ago it was illegal in all 50 States for men to go shirtless, according to the website. After several arrests and protests, men were finally able to go topless. Free The Nipple is fighting for women to have the same right.
After all this information that you've just acquired, I'll ask my question again: Why are women's breasts sexualized by society?
There is this idea women aren't allowed to have any fat on their bodies otherwise they're considered "ugly." However, as stated above, other than producing milk for babies, breasts are just fat that sit on top of our pectoral muscles. Men technically have breasts too.
I'll ask another question: Why does it seem like society is afraid of breasts?
Both men and women develop breasts. They become different is when a woman goes through puberty and estrogen kicks in. The influx of estrogen during puberty, along with growth hormone, cause breasts to develop in females. In men, their bodies produce less estrogen than women and have higher testosterone levels. The high amount of testosterone cancel out the effects of estrogen on developing breast tissue.
Free The Nipple is a movement that will change lives of women on a global scale.
