Why Those Fraternity And Sorority Movies Ruin Everything

Growing up most of us have all watched movies that have involved sororities and fraternities. Going Greek, Legally Blonde, American Pie, Alpha House, 21 and Over. and the list goes on. These movies insert a certain image in our minds of the Greek Life. I believe that movies and Television Shows have brought a bad image upon the greeks. My opinion was changed when I entered the college life.

When I got to college, I portrayed the Greek Life as nothing but one big party full of preppy stuck up rich girls, and douchebag, beer-drinking-boys. I mean at least thats what the movies thought me. My perspective was changed within a few days/weeks that I was on campus. Preppy? Yes. Stuck up? No. Douchebags? No. Beer drinkers? Ohhhh yes. Rush week is like Christmas for sororities and fraternities (more sororities than anything). Chanting and shouting. Flags and banners. Oh, and YouTube recruitment videos. Obviously I'm not in a sorority, but I can "throw" every sign I've come to know. No, I am not shaming. I love it actually. I love watching girls "run the hill." And I do sometimes think about joining, but somehow, I'm talked out of it.

Now, people assume things before they actually get their facts straight. They think that life is one big party when it comes to college, and especially when you throw in greek life. How it can be at certain times with such events as homecoming, rush week, certain holidays; "going greek" can mean a lot fun, but there are also responsibilities. Like the fact that you have to maintain a certain grade point average to stay in the fraternity or sorority you're in. You also are required to do community service, and have so many hours. And also, it's not always a big party to everyone. Most of the time, people join the greek life to gain friendship(s). I mean it is all about sisterhood and brotherhood right? Big and little? No but seriously, that's usually why most people join. I mean it would be why I would. Oh and all those rumors about hazing, that, does not exist, at least on my campus, and hopefully not on any others.

When I came to college, I was always told to "stay away form those frat boys." But, did I listen? Of course not, and I'm more than happy that I didn't. I have been with my "frat guy" for almost a year now, and I have enjoyed every single day. Movies have always destroyed the reputations of frat boys. Dating someone in a fraternity shows that some guys are actually different, who would have thought? My boyfriend is apart of the Zeta Zeta chapter of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Their motto? Pursue excellence. I think that says enough! Anyways, there's never hardly a dull moment when you have a boyfriend in a fraternity. We always have plans. Whether it be a huge party or a date party. Or it could just be "Netflix and chill." No, just kidding it's more of a COD and food kind of night for my guy and I. His brothers have all became some of my craziest and funniest friends. I love my Delta Tau!

So, if you see your little brother or sister, or cousin, or anyone watching Legally Blonde or any other sorority/fraternity related movie(s), stop them. No don't change the movie, just tell them to read this article and do some research. Or, if you're apart of the Greek Life yourself, then educate them. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
