Fraternity parties use to be the “it” move on weekends. Being in Greek Life made it almost always an option to roll up to a social. Getting dolled up to impress the brothers was always a must. The brothers simply just throw on a Polo shirt and stroll down the stairs waiting for ladies to show up. But as a senior, frat parties are nothing like they use to be.
1. Vlad and Natty: First, knowing that there will most likely only be Vlad and Natty just makes them seem so much more unappealing. Most seniors are of age to go to bars, therefore the alcohol is slightly better there. It sucks having to pay for drinks at bars, but they are a little better than the warm jungle juice frats have to offer.
2. “It’s so crowded in here!”: Frat parties usually get incredibly crowded. Bumping and shoving people to move from one end of the dance floor to another is not fun. Half the time, everyone is so drunk that they are stumbling into you. Some nights when it's hot out, frat parties mimic saunas. Sometimes I get more back workouts walking around in heels and sweating all the liquor out than I do in the White Building.
3. “I’m too old for this.”: Entering a frat party as a senior makes you feel so old. You get weird looks when you tell someone you are a senior. Just because we are seniors, doesn’t mean we can’t skip a night of bars. Paying for drinks at the bars get expensive real quick. The underclassmen are so naive as to what is really going on. Here’s a new flash. Girls, make sure to pull your skirt down when you are dancing with a guy. We don’t want to see “that.”
4. Bars, though: The bars are now an option. Why go to a frat with underclassmen, when you can do to bars with people your own age? Bars are a slightly classier when you want to get your drink on, if that’s even possible.
5. The music at frat parties is getting old: The radio loves to overplay certain songs, but fraternity parties seem to be the same way. I can only listen to so much Jason Derulo and Taylor Swift before wanting to claw my ears off.
Going to frat parties as a senior is much different than in years past. Although it’s not out of the question, going to one of these functions just doesn’t sound all that appealing.
Wow, freshman-year me never would have said a frat party sounded unappealing. Times have surely changed.
