Dad’s day is one of the most important events in the fall season; it allows your fathers to meet and connect with the women who have become your sisters over time and also socialize with other dads. But sometimes your father can’t make it, because of a prior event he can't get out of. Sometimes other priorities come in the way and although he would love to support you, he can't. This is when God blesses you with someone in your life who can take the place of your dad for this one day, it doesn’t have to be an uncle, godfather, or family friend. Truthfully it can be one of your peers. Being a part of the greek community you get the opportunity to receive a Big. This is the person who is truthfully your “mom away from mom.” Now, what about the “dad away from dad”?
I’m fortunate enough to have found my “dad away from dad” in college. He is constantly supporting me in everything I do, or reminding me that success takes hard work and dedication. This representation of a “father” is like a mentor who continues to be in your life through out the years and truthfully he will never leave. Being in a college nine hours away from home means I need that shoulder to cry on and tell me that everything will alway be okay. I need that person who is really supportive and embarrassing when I have an accomplishment because they are so proud! The person who will bring Insomnia cookies to your job because you told them that your morning started off rocky. Or even someone who will take you to see "Suicide Squad" for your birthday and pay for everything at the movies. This person will go all out and dress up in a very stereotypical “Dad outfit” and show up to your sorority house for Dad’s Day and be your replacement father all day so you have someone with you at all times.
The best part about this is that this person doesn’t do it because he has to or because he feels obligated. He does it because even though how tough he may seem he has a soft spot for you in his heart, this person will forever be your "Frat Dad." He will always be the shoulder to cry on and the one keeping you out of trouble. He is always a phone call away — and Super Man really has nothing on him. For someone to be so selfless in today's day and age is uncommon, so I thank you Frat Dad for always being there to make me smile and reminding me that I must keep my feet on the ground and my head out of the clouds. Words truly can’t describe how much I love and appreciate you, but I’m sure this letter will help do so.
