2016 has definitely been a year full of anticipation in regards to the movie blockbusters. Spread out among the year, audiences are waiting to see genres displayed out across the board: comedy, action, adventure and horror to name a few; from live-action and animation to anything in between. With 2016 halfway over, there has been a lot to see and there is still plenty yet to come.
Sequels and continuations of franchises were especially popular this year. Already released were "Now You See Me 2," Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows," "The Conjuring 2," and the recently debuts of, "Finding Dory" and "Independence Day: Resurgence." Premieres to come include "Ice Age: Collision Course," "Jason Bourne," "Underworld: Blood Wars," "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back," and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
Along with series, we are also seeing more and more new adaptations and remakes of previous work like "The Legend of Tarzan" and "The Jungle Book."
2017 will continue the franchise trend with a hefty movie line up, more so than this year. From different genres and different plots, these movies are just several on 2017's movie slate that are in some form of production and are currently scheduled to release on these particular days, but could possibly be subjected to change in the future.

Although there has not been an official announcement yet, "Creed 2" is on the teeter totter at the moment. Nothing official has been released on whether or not the movie will happen or even in development. In 2015, both stars of the first film, Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, expressed interests of a second movie during the promotion of "Creed" [an installment of the "Rocky" franchise], which premiered November 25.
