Although it isn't Oscar Season yet (a film buff's favorite time of year), some great movies are out there that deserve credit and your $$$. If you dig good films, then you should definitely check out these Top 15 Must-See Movies of 2017 (so far!).
15. "The Fate of the Furious": Action/Adventure
The latest installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat.
14. "47 Meters Down": Horror/Suspense
This movie got mixed reviews, but if you like a thrilling shark movie, then you'd probably enjoy it. It's fun to watch and the cinematography is great.
13. "The Lego Batman Movie": Animation/Comedy
Whether you're a Batman fan or not, this movie is fun, exciting, and extremely well-made. Even if you don't like animated movies, this one is worth the watch. Perfect for kids and adults.
12. "The Belko Experiment": Horror/Thriller
This film also got mixed reviews, but I kind of enjoyed it. It's a mindless thriller. One critic wrote that it's "Office Space meets Battle Royale", which is a great description.
11. "Life": Horror/Sci-Fi
Starring actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, and Hiroyuki Sanada, this sci-fi thriller is similar to the Alien movies, but with a bit of a twist.
10. "Guardians of the Galaxy. 2": Superhero/Fantasy
The second installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise combines action, adventure, fantasy, and heroes with excellent acting, a riveting screenplay, and mindless fun. Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista are stand-outs!
9. "It Comes At Night": Independent/Horror
I'm such a fan of horror movies, but this isn't a typical one. It's slow and eerie and more creepy than terrifying. Director Trey Edward Shults provides a visually striking movie with an excellent screenplay and an immersive viewing experience. Like I said, it's not a typical horror film, so don't go in expecting a slasher/ghost/demon movie, or you will be disappointed. It is scary in its own right.
8. "Cars 3": Animation/Comedy
An excellent end to the Cars trilogy, this movie packs a lot more emotion than the first two. It's enjoyable to kids and adults alike, and the animation just keeps getting better and better.
7. "Kong: Skull Island": Sci-Fi/Fantasy
This movie is fun, thrilling, and will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's a movie about larger-than-life creatures, with standout performances by Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly. Don't expect a riveting script or incredible plotline, but expect visual pleasure and enjoyable acting.
6. "John Wick: Chapter Two": Action/Crime Thriller
If you like lots of action and lots of guns, then this is the movie for you. It's a bit more emotional than the first, but you get an even closer look into the underground network of criminality that John Wick just can't seem to escape.
5. "Logan": Action/Drama/Superhero
This movie will make you hold on tight to the edge of your seat, cry, laugh, and ultimately renew your love for the Wolverine. A new and interesting take on a superhero movie, with edges of black comedy and deep emotion. Marvel hasn't made a movie this excellent in years! (And you don't have to know all about Wolverine: this is the first movie I saw about him and I loved it!)
4. "Wonder Woman": Action/Drama/Superhero
Yes, I know. Yet another superhero movie on the list. But 2017 has produced some great ones so far. Wonder Woman is absolutely stunning, both visually and story-wise. An origin-story of sorts, it effortlessly transports you into a different world and time. Gal Gadot is thrilling to watch. This film gives new meaning to the phrase "girl power!".
3. "Baby Driver": Action/Adventure
Edgar Wright is back ladies and gentlemen! I am so in love with his latest, Baby Driver. Ansel Elgort puts in a hell of a performance, and the choreography that matches up with the beats of the soundtrack throughout the movie makes for a fun, exciting, beautiful, new take on an action film.
2. "Split": Horror/Suspense
James McAvoy and the many characters he plays make this movie scary, thrilling, and absolutely incredible to watch. The plot is new and interesting, and the famous M. Night Shyamalan plot-twist at the end makes it that much more gratifying. He also delivers an excellent screenplay and beautiful cinematography.
1. "Get Out": Horror/Satire
I hope you will check out and enjoy these movies!
