July 14th, 2016 in Nice, France, another terrorist attack took place. This time it occurred in an unusual but still tragic way. An extremist group rented a truck a week prior to their attack and performed an egregious act of simply running over a crowd of people during a Bastille celebration. The death toll was said to be about eighty.
In the past four months there have been multiple terrorist acts. The airport bomb threat in France, and Egypt Air flight 804 are just a couple to name. Egypt Air flight 804 took off from Paris, Charles DeGaulle International Airport and was on its way to Cairo before being blown up at 37,000 feet in the air. Are there specific issues France and the whole world should be addressing? When speaking about France and the security issues that have obviously been exposed, we may also want to look at how they, as a country, handle immigration. When looking at the country as a whole I have noticed differences in how immigration is handled compared to the United States.
The first difference I noticed has to deal with not only France but the entire world. Let's face it, every country is at fault for the event that took place; simply because no one wanted to get involved with the Syrian Government. The Syrian Government is killing and starving their own people. This has been going on for years now but everyone refuses to get involved. If you were starving and witnessing your family members murders, you would want to flee. Due to the terror in their home country, the majority of Syrians traveled through multiple countries by foot and settled in Greece, Germany, and many other European countries including Canada. Since they have traveled in masses it is hard to keep track of 20,000 people who don't have proper documentation. Since this crisis has taken place, it has made it easier for terrorist groups to blend in.
The second cause of this tragedy would be a result of a very popular game called "futbol," or as Americans know it, soccer. The Euro Championships were held in France two weeks earlier and because National Security was extremely tight, there were no unfortunate incidences. However, after it ended there could be a possibility that there was was a period of relaxation. The Euro Cup was an extremely high risk event in terms of being a target for terrorism. France had just cleared a huge hurdle and as a most humans do, they let their guard down. Thus, two weeks later France witnessed one of the worst attacks this year.
One big question remains, is any country safe to travel to or live in? At this point in time the answer is simply no, because of all the bad that is inhabiting the earth. As Americans we can't forget about the Dallas police shootings or unjustified shootings of innocent citizens. We can't forget about 9/11 or the Orlando night club shooting. We all have risks to take but they are all different. What are we, the world, going to do about it?
