In the fast-paced world we live in, it can be hard to remember to take time for yourself. While we are constantly trying to accomplish our goals and please others, sitting and taking a breath seems unnecessary and impossible at times. It's incredibly important, however, to remember to care for yourself. Here are four simple ways to practice self-care in the coming week.

1. Take some time to be alone.

I enjoy spending times with my loved ones as much as the next person, but few things are as refreshing as spending time by yourself when you're feeling stressed. When you spend a lot of time around other people, it can be hard to truly know what you want to do. Spending time alone gives you the opportunity to do as much or as little as you want. You can watch whatever you want on Netflix or finally try that new little bistro that nobody else seems as interested in as you are. You can take a drive or wander around your favorite store with no one distracting you. The world is yours, and you'll go back to your people feeling renewed and better able to hear yourself think.

2. Do something with your hands.

Getting your hands dirty is a great way to energize yourself. Doing something with an end result is not only satisfying once you see your accomplishment, but it helps you stay on task to accomplish a specific goal. Knitting, light cleaning, drawing or playing an instrument can help ground you and make you feel accomplished. Even cooking and baking can keep you busy and focused, and you get food when you're done. Does it get any better?

3. Spend some time in nature.

There are very few things that help recharge you more than being outdoors. The fresh air helps clear your head, and the sunshine is good for you (but don't forget sunscreen if you're pale like me). If you groaned when you read the word "nature", remember that you don't have to do something super active to get the benefits of the outside world. While exercise is fantastic for you and I highly recommend trying yoga or running outside, just sitting on a park bench or taking a light stroll can be beneficial.

4. Do something nice for someone else.

Have you ever been the recipient of a random act of kindness? Do you remember how it felt? Be the one who makes another person feel that way. Not only does it brighten the day of someone else, but it makes you feel better for helping someone. You can turn anything into a random act of kindness - complimenting someone's smile, opening a door for someone whose arms are full and paying ahead for the car behind you in a drive-thru are all things you can do to make someone's day a little bit nicer. You will feel good because you made someone else feel good. Everybody wins!

Everyone is different, so take some time to explore what helps you recharge and prepare for the tasks ahead of you. By paying closer attention to what you need, you will be better prepared to handle whatever comes your way. Go forth and care for yourself!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
