It is that time of year, most of us either just got back from spring break or our spring break is approaching. Before that week comes, everyone decides what kind of break they are going to have. Will it be a wild spring break? A relaxing spring break at home? A well-planned trip? Or a laid back we will see what happens kind of break? When deciding, it really comes down to how your life has been, whether you are in need of some real fun or if you are in need of a break from all of the fun.
Here is a break down of the four kinds of college spring break:
1. A wild spring break or "sprang break" as James Franco would put it.
This spring break is your typical "dayge," a day-rage break. You wake up and start drinking, you question your survival at several points and you probably consumed all of your calories for the week in alcohol alone. It is your Cabo trip, your Rocky Point trip, and the crowd favorite, Mission Beach. A wild spring break trip might also include a trip to the hospital followed by excessive Snapchats with the caption, "rallying," or accidentally leaving a friend due to drunken miscommunication or even every college parents' fear: jail. When you make it back to school a part of you will actually be surprised you made it.
2. A relaxing spring break at home.
Sometimes we just need an actual break, and the only way to get that is to head home for the week. This week most likely includes catching up with some old friends that are in town at the same time, free food compliments of your parents and getting caught up on all of the episodes available of your chosen series on Netflix. Because let us be honest, as much as you planned and even wanted to, no homework or studying got done. From your Instagram and Snapchats, others might think you had a boring break, but while they are still nursing a hangover Monday in class and crying over all the money they blew, you will be well rested and might have even gained a little money.
3. A well-planned spring break.
A trip with an itinerary and every minute planned for is not for everyone, but if you are a planner by all means plan away and take me with you. A planned trip is typically chosen in order to see all there is in a new place. Spring break is the perfect time to travel and see somewhere new, but planning is necessary to see all there is and leave feeling accomplished. Also, these trips generally produce the best Instagram pics. This break can have aspects of raging, relaxing, and spontaneity included as well.
4. A laid back spring break.
A spring break where you and some friends get in the car and head to a nearby state and plan on just crashing wherever. It sounds sketchy and like it will not end well, but it always does. This is a spring break trip where it is vital that you have the right combination of people, because chances are, you might end up spending a night in the car, and you most definitely will end up on some couches. A chill spring break is not for everyone; it is all about going along for the ride and being willing to meet new people and live by the motto "we have nothing to lose."
Personally, I have experienced 3 of these college spring breaks so far and have loved every one of them, but I can say one thing is for sure. I will not be experiencing the fourth, because you are nuts if you think your senior year spring break will be spent at home.
Spring break is about having fun and just doing you, whatever that is that week, so have fun, be safe and spring break forever.
